ninjashoes 08-17-2006, 07:45 AM This isnt a section of the forum for bashing TMA's, we all know in style vs. style matches that grapplers have an advantage because they can force their opponent to fight their fight. We know that a lack of live sparring can render a martial art useless in a real situation. This is not anything new and if you wanna talk about how Kung Fu is useless do it in the MMA forum unless the topic at hand calls for it. By studying TMA's we might find techniques that have long been fogotten that can be applied to mma and that why alot of us are interested in them.
xhale 10-20-2006, 11:18 AM well put
MMAsterkillah 10-20-2006, 08:29 PM true, while traditional martial arts may not be the way to dedicate yourself 100%, using certain techniques and parts of individual styles may be able to set you apart from competition.
aussjj 11-07-2006, 05:48 AM very well said, i wish all mmartists started in a traditional art and tried to keep there roots so we could see mma evolve. Im sure theres alot of techniques that we havent seen in mma not because they dont work but because they havent been tried. With that said, im glad you differentiated mma from actual combat, there not the same thing. Self-defense techniques work in real life but not so well in mma.
Thanks for posting this and i hope everyone reads it, im also tired of mindless bashing.
The Hero 01-21-2007, 11:59 PM I have trained in traditional martial arts over half my life and I would use it in the street before I would use BJJ. Not that BJJ is bad.

I disagree, try using gay ass wing chun shite will get you murdered, id bust out BJJ first, pull guard and switch to GogoPlata Baby!!!
The_attack 01-22-2007, 01:21 AM I also disagree, If i was getting into a street fight and heard the guy i was fighting was a blackbelt in tkd, karate, or anything like it i wouldn't be all too bothered by it, but if i heard the guy was blackbelt in BJJ i would probably just run

No disrepect intended, however, I find it interesting that this is on the first page of Ninja's thread that starts out, "This isnt a section of the forum for bashing TMA's [the martial arts]..."
I'm a tried and true BJJ fighter myself, but I know and understand it's not for everyone. In terms of real life and real people, I respect and admire anyone who has the heart and dedication to commit to training in any martial art.

Nice. I'll remember that the next time we're on the matt. Just kidding.

Yeah your probably right. After I posted I started thinking that this probably wasn't the correct place for this debate and kind of regretted posting it.
ninjashoes 01-28-2007, 01:12 AM if you think a karate practioner will not hurt you well..........you need to learn about the history of K-1 and kickboxing in general.......
