How do you guys get out from under your opponent? I usually turn around and stand up thus giving up my back in the process.

From a closed guard I like top transition to a spider guard and try to push my opponent with my legs which can give time to stand up. The other one is again from the spider or open guard trying to get de la riva and from there the options are numerous.

I am also crap at sweeps so I might not be the best person whose advice you should follow.

i suck at sweeps from guard. i feel more comfortable giving an opponent the head and arm choke from side mount, and then bridging/rolling when they mount. since youre purposely giving them the head and arm, its easy to not get choked out. i onlt do this against people my weight or lighter. its hard to roll a guy who has 80 lbs on you

i transition to butterfly guard and do an elevator. Sometimes ill just wrap my hands around his neck to pull them down and use them to pull me up when they try to post up. I ike sweeps when an armbar doesnt work or ill go for a kimura and if they lock their hands or post up ill swing my hips up and out pushing them over so i end up in mount

yeah the kimura from gaurd is a good one, grab one of their wrists and figure four it, and alot of the time you can even get the submission from there by scooting out to your side and making yourself about perpendicular to them, then cranking it, but if you cant get the submission you can usually end up rolling them into a mount for you.

I also like the scizzor sweep from full guard. you go to an open guard while you have your hand on the back of their head/neck and have control of one arm (lets just say the left for now) . you then bring your left knee down and put it inside along their waist horizontally and hip out to your right while rolling them and you can use your left leg to kinda push them up then pull them over and down with your hands and right leg ... i hope that made sense lol

I like the one I see Rich Franklin and Frank Shamrock so where you pull down on your opponents head like a half ass giottine and when they pull up you scoot your hips out and stand.

trap and arm, make him post with his leg, once he posts with his leg, you hook under the fold of his knee, keep your opposing leg free, shrimp your hips to the direction of the hooked knee, and use your foot to push off of him.

I think the easiest position to sweep from is from butterfly guard. As long as you can trap an arm most people will be easily swept. Then again I dont know wut level your grappling at

agreed, even if you dont have an arm trapped, its still pretty easy to sweep, but true... good grapplers are able to pass butterfly guard if they have both arms to square out with

Post on one ankle and drive, thats works for me (from guard, thrown the non posting leg Low, either they go for Guar Pass, and are Primed for a roll, or they ass-trip over it)

Crossface Bridge: Go across his face with the opposite arm and pull his arm into you, trap the same side leg with your leg, bridge and roll....

I like the elevater sweep, it throws them off because you have them suspended for a second, and when they come down you can use that time to get your leg in front of one of his shoulders for an arm bar or set up a triangle. Or escapse if you'd like.

I like the sit up sweep when my opponent is posturing or leanding back. Start by reaching over for the kimura but if you do not get the wrist with your lower hand, grab the elbow from the back of the arm with your reaching arm and turn into them that way while exploding your hips up and into them while rolling to that side.

I like the scisor sweep if they lean into me - if they post too far out with a leg, trasition to the hook sweep variation and if they post out with just the knee then use the push sweep variation.

Often times though I will also try a good old armdrag and take the back if I can hip out quick enough.

In gi, I like the scissors sweep, hip throw sweep and pendulum sweep. The key is to attack aggressively combining them with subs.

I've gotten really good at sweeps. Home Depot has a great deal on an industrial sized broom.
