I find it hard staying away from training, personally. I had to take a 3 week lay-off from jiujitsu, for an eye injury, and I'm chompin at the bit to get back. Maybe try to think about why you started in the first place, or how much you love it?

i won't be takin no breaks for spring break. i've had one long enuf from my accident.

but one way that motivates me, is when i go in and see that im getting ragdolled more than normal or if im just straight up slippin on my technique and someone submits me....fuckin motivates the shit outta me not to let it happen again, and therefore motivates me to train even harder.

First off why even take a break? You don't want to settle that's bullshit man. If you're gonna do something and you truly want to excel you have to put everything you have into it. That means there are no breaks(although you should lower intensity from time to time). Every time you take a break you're putting your goals on hold and if you're willing to do that then maybe you don't want it bad enough.

Plus everytime you take a break it's kinda the whole one step foward two steps back thing.

Can't argue with this... the best way to solve the problem of making a comeback is to not have to comeback at all...

I also agree with Combatclub... now that you have to make a comeback... start setting small goals to get you started again and then rock and roll from there.

Unlike some of these other cats, I understand that sometimes your career and your family and other commitments can get out in front of your hobby, Kermit. My instructor actually called my house yesterday to ask why I have been to the gym but once in the past month. Work has been beating me down with the 12 hour days and I know right were you are coming from. To get back into it you just have to go.

An object at rest...

You just have to motivate yourself ONCE to go - then you will remember why you train to begin with and you let the momentum from that session carry you to the next. Hopefully I will be able to take my own advice and break away from my career for a couple of hours this week so that I can actually do something I enjoy. What a novel concept.

I have virutally no one to impose any kind of blockage to stop my training.

Breaks though .... those are tough actually getting back into the routine. Cannabis helps me get motivated back into the groove.

Well, you will be in better shape, and feel better overall?? Thats not enough motivation? How about all the extra attention from females you will get if you look good/are fit??

That usually works well to...think if an ex-girlfriend, and how much better you will look now than then, once in tip top shape try to just "run into her", she will see how good you look, immediatly want some "for old times sake" hole beating....and thus you = win.

Look in mirror. Run a couple laps. Lift some weights. Realize you are nowhere near where you used to be.

As for taking breaks. I usually take a week off every 2 months or so to relax (that was when I was training regularily) but I haven't been training regularily in over two years now.

My training went to shit when I got a Mill job and the 10 hours days and awkward schedule made me unable to train. Manual labour kept me strong. Injured shoulder/Starting my own business really fucked my training up.

I haven't been doing much but healing and trying to get into the swing of things for the last year.

I think I'm back though. Find a friend or two. That's what I've done. And then pretend that you guys are in a competition to see who can get fittest the fastest.

Watch exciting MMA fights, Listen to loud music, flex in the mirror, picture youself going out to intro music.

Do all these on a daily basis.

Well i don't know if it's my dad for sure... Still waiting for FBI DNA testing to confirm. But he has been missing for a little over two years. Then stuff they found with the body sounds like his crap.... He also left a pseudo suicide note when he disappeared.

But yeah just lots of emotional crap...

i find that some times its not about motivation its about conditioning your self to do it. as long as you get in the gym its all good. for me after a break some times i just make sure i get to the gym some days ill half ass it so bad thats its barely worth going but im there it is habit building. after a while i dont miss any days cause i re conditioned my self and its a part of the daily rutien and im working hard every day. just get your self to the gym even if you barley do anything it will jsut get you in the habit and after a while it wont be so hard.

+1

i look at my belly and tell myself i'll never score a really hot chick looking like that, plus i get pissed off when i get cought with a left hook or something like that and that motivates me to train harder.

pussy+anger=motivation.

my breaks come because of school, finals and midterms take me away from training, but during those breaks i get the urge to go back and i can't wait to get back in the gym... however when i feel lazy i take a little time off to avoid over training and gettting hurt, then i get motivated by wanting to get in shape and competition

Getting your ass handed to you in training is good motivation.
