I'm not an Angel fan but I know that Blaine is just a very average magician who has been overhyped because of a TV show.He hasn't done a live show because he hasn't the material like Penn and Teller for example. He has to resort to absurd and boring 'stunts' for publicity.Quintessential attention whore.
