View Full Version : One Arm Pullup race.

OK, I'm starting this competition to force myself to get to one. To win, you have to have proof, ie. a videotape of you doing the full range of motion with just one arm. It must be completely unassisted by the other arm, so it must not come in contact with the pulling arm. I suggest keeping it down for clarity.
You must NOT be able to do a one armed pullup currently. To enter, list your bodyweight and pullup max.
Pictures not acceptable.
I suggest using a supinated grip.

Alright I'm in, I gotta buy a pull-up bar though.
I'm 165lbs 6'1 and can do somewhere between 12 and 14 chins. I'll upadate with the real number when I get the bar.
Deegs, what are your stats?

this is gonna fun. i think it'd be a good idea to have races every once in a while for motivation. we can have a monthly one or something like that.
blevunly
03-02-2008, 10:06 PM
Do one a month regardless of if the previous is finished or are you expecting to have this feat conquered in a month?

i didn't think this through, lol! well, im sure we can have simulteanous races going on. im sure more people would participate if the feat was something feasible for them.

6'1" - 228. I can do 7-13 chins depending on the day... 13 being a perfect day.
I can't do an unnassisted one arm pullup. 6 weeks ago I did do 3 1/2 assisted one arm pullups. Am I disqualified?
deegs
03-02-2008, 11:08 PM
no, as long as you can't do an unassisted one arm pullup you qualify dude. i would be pretty fucking impressed if you managed one at 228.

Squating releases the most growth hormones so I'm gonna stick with it. Plus if next month happens to be a lower body challenge you don't want to be extremely weak.

Yeah, I don't got much to cut. I'm the perfect example of an ectomorph. Btw is this comp for strict chins only, or are kipping ones allowed?
deegs
03-02-2008, 11:40 PM
i think a little english is ok, but definitely not crossfit style kipping. we should decide together once the feat is recorded if it is acceptable or ridiculous. i could definitely see someone taking advantage of this and doing a jump into a pullup.

So I went and tried to do one but the only chin up bar I have is quite fat in comparison to normal chin up bars... and with no help at all I could barely hold on let alone move.
So I am now 100% officially in this race.

well your 135 while newton is about 100lbs heavier than u
deegs
03-03-2008, 03:06 AM
naw, no weight classes. the bodyweight is simply to better gauge how impressive the feat is. for example, say both chickenjorge and hotnewton reach a 1 arm pullup at the same time, the 100lbs difference between them would have to be considered.
Chickenjorge

so this isnt really a comp more of a race(duh says it in the name of the thread, excuse me im part polish) and we doing this based on quickness or just to help everyone reach their max
pokey

but it takes more energy and oxygen to move bigger muscles

we will have to judge this without a system, or by popular vote from people not in the comp

i agree. but we should make it so its people that are regulars.
cuz then people can get their gimmicks to vote for them, or other posters will vote without knowing the weight, height, etc. of each poster, or any of that.

if we are seeing who can do the most, the lighter person has the advantage natually less energy=more repitition. it would be like having a bench press compition with you against him he is stronger, can lift more, and can do more reps at weights u max out on

How did we get on the subject of voting? Donpoke the race is to 1 one-arm chin/pull-up. So no need to worry about who can do the most reps as a prerequisite was that you cannot already perform one.

the grip aspect will be tougher, but the position that the arm is in(close to the body) will probably help out, i think
