Vince McMahon issued his first public comments on the reported $20million payoff that Floyd Mayweather is receiving to appear at WWE WrestleMania 24.

Vince McMahon said, “We’re all about sports entertainment,” to a Los Angeles Times reporter at the WrestleMania 24 press conference on Monday.

McMahon also added, “I had to do something Madison Avenue could understand, and I paid for the attention Floyd’s going to get. Floyd is a national showman.”

Floyd Mayweather’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, said his boxer's involvement with this year’s WWE WrestleMania is "about expanding his fan base. He's a competitor, and a great businessman. It's eight figures, and this company brings in 47 million viewers to its three shows a week. It's great for us."

The alledged $20 million payoff to Flyd Mayweatehr seems to getting quite a bit of media attention.

I'm thinking the $20 million is a worked number. Doesn't make financial sense for the WWE.

If thats true, thats an incredible deal for Floyd. Floyd is the one who is going to gain themost out of this. The average pro wrestling fan may not give a shit about Mayweather, but Wrestlemania is a huge show and Floyd's geting his name out there and taking yet another huge step towards becoming a house hold name.

But at the same time, Floyd isn't going to bring the WWE the kind of attention a Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield or a Muhammad Ali (who appeared at an early wrestlemania I think) would. So if Floyd is getting 20 mil for this, he nabbed himself an incredible deal.

I also think that 20 mil is a work. I don't think that WM24 is even going to generate that enough payout. And let's say it generates 30 mil or so, is it smart to give 2/3 of your income?

When you factor in ticket sales, PPV sales, merchandise sales, sponsors, ect I'd say they'll generate more than 30 mil, but I agree with you I think its a work.

I agree Wrestlemania will generate $30 million at most, but as a publicly traded company, the WWE isnt allowed to lie about financial matters, so I dont think $20 mil is a worked number.

It's like the lawyer on the Simpsons said, "There's the truth, and there's the truuuuth."

The could have the $20million figure in a contract with incentives that he'll never reach.
