hell yeah, the crashes are the best part. short track races eat up more cars.

yeah, but restrictor plates make em MUCH bigger. both have their plusses and minuses, crash wise. the frequency on short track is fun, but the sheer volume of the few on long tracks is astounding.

Nascar is boring just like baseball but it is entertaining to see people get folded as long as they end up alright and its great to watch the final 35 laps or so.

I don't know if I'm what you'd call a "fan". I don't make any special effort to watch, but I'm married to a HUGE fan! I saw quite of the Daytona 500 Sunday. Ryan Newman? That was out of nowhere, wasn't it?
Who you pull for? I like Carl Edwards; not cause he does backflips when he wins (although, that's cool), and not because he's one of the hawtest guys on the track, but cause he gives so much to charity, 'specially children's causes. It was pretty righteous when he won the race and won the guitar - only to turn RIGHT AROUND and give it to an adult man with downs syndrome (a brother of a race crewman). You'd have thought he'd been given the moon and stars. My heart just melted...I think I even teared up.
That COT "car of tomorrow" is now the COT "car of today", but there's still some whiners, aren't there? I s'pose they feel they must blame their inability to win on something.

Nascar is huge i KY and i used to watch quite a bit but when Dale died i sort of lost interest. I did watch almost all of Daytona last weekend but i need to have a favorite driver to entice me to tune in on a regular basis.

Darrell and Michael Waltrip are from my hometown but i've never been a big fan of Michael's for some reason. :dntknw: i did pull for big brother in his hay day though.
My all-time fav driver other than Big Earn and D.W. is probably A.J. Foyt

That would be Dale, Jr. I wasn't a big fan of the intimidator, but hubby thinks he was a god. He definitely made a big impact on the sport. Dale, Jr., though, he's so awesome - really, really down to earth kinda guy.

I like Matt Kenseth and Dale Jarrett, but was always a Davey Allison fan (till he died). I actually thought Newman had a chance, it's restrictor plate racing. but I also thought Waltrip had a chance (silly me). FUCK the whiners, all I got to say about them.
I wouldn't call myself a huge fan as I make no effort to watch, but if it's on.. I will have it on the tube, but I may be doing something else around the house. I did watch all the 500 though.

You'd mentioned NHRA yesterday, and I've seen many of those races - I actually recognize some of these names! John Force's daughter races too, doesn't she? I've been to lotsa NHRA races, but quit going cause of all the noise and the smell...it's kinda nauseating...so much staging, the smoke (cough, cough!). Now, I just watch on TV sometimes.

Yeah, I like Kenseth, and Jarrett's last year (Dale, Jr. has his old number - wow!)...woulda been nice to see Mikey win, wouldn't it? He deserves a break after last year. I'm glad you brought up the "whiners" - IMO, the Bush brothers, 'specially Kurt. He's such a pussy. I loved it when they wrecked EACH OTHER!!!

I remember the name Shirley Muldowney, but not much about her racing.
I saw the race a few months back - Ashley wrecked and her dad was there and saw it and all...he was pretty upset, but knows it comes with the territory.

nahhhhhh, ya gotta actually watch a race to enjoy it, your prolly one of those guys that MIGHT watch 5-10 laps (if that) and say "this is some boring ass shit" BUT if you actually sat down on Sunday afternoon from 1-4 (football time) and watched a whole race you wouldn't say "booooooo nascar".

I would/should give ya a break on this one, car racing isn't in all people's blood, mine on the other hand is, my cousin was the local circuit champion 4 years in a row, my other cousin has and sometimes still does work the pits for Jerry Glanville and or his other drivers, myself, I have drove a racecar at Michigan Int. Speedway (terry Labontes #5 car) doing 12 laps and they clocked me with the fastest lap allowed 140 mph (track was cold, so they slowed em up some). so yeah, it's in my blood.

Yeah I bet if I had some personal experience with it, I would be motivated to watch. I can definitely see the intrigue, those machines are incredible.
Just as far as sports are concerned, it isn't my thing. Sitting down and watching it on TV just isn't my thing. I think it's probably bomb live though, like you said.

actually there is more to it than just going around in circles, for one although those cars have power steering they are a bitch to turn( even at 140 mph) you got to be in good shape and have enough strength to be able to turn those cars left for 3-4 hours constantly. also they do have road courses that you have to turn left and right, plus you need to know when to stay back and when to make your push toward the front, it also helps if you know what the hell those announcers are saying, makes a big difference. anywho, NASCAR (or any other racing org)is not for everyone, but the fact is and always will be that I LOVE THAT SHIT.

I'm personally an F1 fan when the season starts but the first month or so leading up to it, I dabble in Nascar. I just don't understand how someone wins... is found to have broken the rules, and only loses points and doesn't forfeit the win. aka Edwards and the gas cap thing. Baffles me.

almost every top driver has had at least one infraction with the COT since they began driving them. edwards' car had a cap issue, jis like many have had some sort of violation, but they're only questioned because of their win. many of the cars are probly having some of the same issues - ya jis don't hear it cause they ain't winning.
'cept in the case of mike waltrip last year - he admitted wrongdoing, and i got to hand it to him for being honest and not trying to shift the blame.
shit happens...the cars and their limits and all the "kinks" are still being resolved. the winners on those cases, like edwards, don't lose the win, but points and certain other privileges because of the reprimand.

the COT, then car of tomorrow, is now the Car of Today...yes, there were violations, but much less frequency. the penalties have become more severe and include points not just for driver or crew chief, but owners, etc.
yeah, there's cheaters in every sport. go figure...where they come up with unsportsmanlike conduct, i s'pose.
