View Full Version : Your MMA Regiment?
Kundurp 02-18-2008, 08:14 PM So if you guys want to know Varners training program for our hour MMA program Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays here's how it goes.
Stretching and warm ups done before the hour mark. The we simulate the conditioning of a 3 round 5 minute fight.
We group up in pairs then go off
for the first 2 minutes One parter is working the punching bag on the mat in the cage, while the other is on focus mits.
The next 2 minutes you switch places
Then the last minute of the round is wrestling for takedowns.
30 second break
Repeat the 2 minutes on the bag and focus mits till the last minute it's then greco wrestling for take downs.
30 second break
The the last round is full MMA with light taps for punches.
5 minute break outside of the cage then come back and repeat this again.
then for the last 20 minutes of class full submission grappling while switching partners and working different starting positions.
My JuiJitsu class is the standard full GI generic class and kickboxing is pads for 30 mins sparring for 30 mins nothing special.
But I really like my MMA program Ray Steinbiess and Jamie push us really hard.
SD_ATOmega119 02-18-2008, 09:33 PM sounds awesome...
i dont claim to be any authority but wouldnt it be smarter to have situational sparring and regualr sparring separate...maybe im jsut high and not reading your thing rite

Kundurp 02-26-2008, 03:30 AM yo kundurp any advice on training mma even tho there is no real gym in my area just a bjj gym?
Get an elastic jump rope and MMA stand up vid.
Wrap the rope around your back (holding it in each hand for resistance) and do the punching drill you see in the video for and hour to get the form right. Then get a friend with gloves and a mouth peice and take turns going all offense then all defense light sparring. Suggest to your BJJ school a class (or free time) to work wrestling takedowns.
Also find a swimming pool and swim laps, the drill the punches you see in the water 100 reps at a time for 3 sets.
It's really tough to work with a school that isn't flexible, if you're serious about it you gotta move like I did.
When I started Training when I was 16 or so I was in Indiana and had to drive 30 miles every day to get to my gym, it sucked.
Aussie 02-26-2008, 07:41 AM good shit, i dont do BBJ atm cos its on the same days as my rugby league training(wich is alot of cardio/power/endurance/speed)
so atm i got muay thai on mondays ,rugby on tues, muay thai on wed, rugby on thurs,
play rugby on sundays, i also do rotating shift work so it makes it hard to train sometimes
our average muay thai sesh goes something like this :
go for a run to warm up, stretch,
skipping for 3 rounds of 2 mins, doing 20 push ups inbetween rounds , 30 sec brake
than 2X ,2 min rounds of shadow boxing with light hand weights,
than 2X 2 min rounds of shadow boxing with gloves
than we have a circuit set up with one person in the ring hitting pads, one on the long bag, doing all strikes, one on the round bag doing just knees, one on the normal bag doing combo's, one on the uppercut pad thingy doing elbows and uppercuts and another hiting pads , do eacth for 2 mins than swap till everybody does each thing,
than we practise stand up grappling in the thai clinch and work light knees to the body , we do this for about 10mins , for about 30 seconds at a time, each person interchanging as the time is up,
after that we condition each others thighs by lightly shin kicking them,
that we finish with some pull ups, crunchs, sit ups etc and have a stretch, it is a pretty good work out ,
we spar every 2 or 3 sessions either at our gym , or at a couple other mt gyms up the road , our gym vs thiers
i go to bjj when ever i can but time does not permit it :(
Aussie 02-26-2008, 07:48 AM in the rugby off season i train bjj on tues and thurse

Yeah it's really hard to develop a well rounded MMA regiment with a one sided camp.
It helps to work stand up with grappler's who know stand-up cause they won't make the dumb mistakes one sided boxers make like leg kicking a wrestler or not sprawling, or keeping a low stance to avoid take-downs.
Worst part of MMA is getting to the right camp.
EDIT: Also having a close friend to fuck around with and spar/grapple really helps. Poland and I are gonna get really good together (although he might not ever get in the cage like me)
Aussie 03-13-2008, 06:51 AM what do u think of the regime i posted kurdnip ,you fucking emo
