1954 8th Grade Civics Test -
Could You Pass?
2-1-7
What more proof do we need that our children are being deliberately dumbed down than this standard 1954 civics test on the U.S. Constitution on which Kenny Hignite received a 98 1/2, Excellent, indeed!

–noun 1. a person exercising absolute power, esp. a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession.
Nothing in the definition says they have to not care about the people. That is just the kid's bias opinion. I hope they failed!
fscottbaio 02-16-2008, 02:15 AM The standards were high apparently, but the retention of knowledge and a bettering of your understanding of the government is more important than rote memorization of names and amendments. Don't forget that this generation of students were also the ones that gave us Vietnam, Nixon, Reagan, etc etc.
It's impressive that the kid could memorize all those names, positions and amendments but it's the application of that knowledge that should be a higher priority.
"Teaching the test" is impressive as a parlor trick, but it's missing the ideal point of education.
Squirrel 02-16-2008, 02:20 AM ^^Good post!
p.s. I would've failed the test because I don't give a shit about that "stuff"
pokey 02-16-2008, 02:46 AM this is cool, but ill have to disagree, , education of a child really depends on the teacher, or the child it self for that matter. the government, even thought they set the cirriculum they dont enforce it the teachers do. and all of these things i learned in school as well, except for the erelievent stuff like the "who is" questions
Neo_Pop 02-16-2008, 03:18 AM I would fail the test, especially in this administration considering how often cabinet members have been replaced.
I think I could handle the questions that don't ask for a person's name.
Dert McGert 02-16-2008, 03:28 AM Isn't this Axeman's exam from the 8th grade?

You mean you have been engineered not to care or question how your government works?

What if the curriculum is controlled by people who don't want you to care about anything except for consuming and entertainment?
