WASHINGTON -- The Washington Redskins hired Jim Zorn as their coach Saturday night, a surprise ending to a monthlong search for a replacement for Joe Gibbs, The Associated Press has learned.

Zorn's hiring was confirmed to ESPN.com's John Clayton by sources familiar with the situation.

It's a surprising ending to their monthlong search to find a replacement for Joe Gibbs.

According to a person who was informed of the Redskins decision, Zorn will be introduced at a news conference tomorrow afternoon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement has not been made.

Zorn is a former Seattle quarterback who coached the Seahawks' quarterbacks the past seven years.

The Redskins hired him to be their offensive coordinator on January 26th, while continuing their search for a head coach.

Others candidates for the job included New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci, Jim Mora and Ron Meeks.

Zorn becomes the sixth coach under owner Daniel Snyder, who bought the team in 1999.

Don't really understand this hiring at all.

Is Zorn a bad coach? No, but goddamn he hasn't even proven he can be a consistent play caller, and he has no experience with D or running a ball club. Kind of surprising, but I guess Daniel Snyder was turned down a few times before making this decision.

I hate Daniel Snyder.

I was pretty excited to have Zorn as our offensive coordinator, since Saunders system really didn't seem to be working here. Also Zorn is considered to be the best in the business as a Quarterback coach, Jason Campbell could use that. But head coach!!!!!! I don't see how this is logical at all, maybe a couple years down the road after he has more experience and proven himself. Dan Snyder fucked up in my opinion when Greg Williams didn't get the job. But when they hired Joe Gibbs back in the 80s or whatever it was kinda similar to this hiring of Zorn. you never know.

Seeing him play has given you reason to believe this is a good hiring???

I am not saying he isn't a great QB coach, or doesn't have potential to run the show, but him as head coach out of nowhere is ridiculous.
Daniel Snyder probably wants to play the Jerry Jones role and have a puppet at his whim.

not one time did I say it was a good Hiring, I think it was a bad choice to be honest. Very good QB (in his playin days) very good QB coach, but a head coach I don't think so, I was just sayin "you guys were too young to see him play" I got to see him play with Largent. no biggie.

DC was promoted from within a guy baned Blache. I thought this was kind of interesting though, Mike Holmgren has had 4 QB coaches become head coaches, 3 of them are: Steve Marruci, Andy Reid, Jon Gruden. Not bad company by any means. Not amazing or anything but not bad.

snyder is a fuck up. he isnt as bad a douchebag like jerry jones, but even snyder is worse at being a control freak as jones(ok maybe not worse, but makes worse decisions)
