View Full Version : Buakaw's Latest Bout
Fedor=#1 02-06-2008, 08:30 AM His most recent match was against Sato. In 2006, Buakaw totally dominated him and KOed him in the 2nd Rd. But this time, it goes to an extra round decision. Here's the last 2 rounds of the fight, it's missing the first 2 though...

And is it just me or did Buakaw get rocked at the end there? He's using a lot more punches than he used too, that's not too bad of a thing, but he shouldn't forget to stick with his bread n butter at times. Like at the end, he went for a body shot and left his chin wide open, but he handled it well till the bell rang.
I think he's getting over-confident with his punching ability. By the way he's going now, I get the feeling he might lose later on, possibly even by KO. Well I haven't seen the whole fight, so I guess I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions just yet, I suppose.
MildernhardPark 02-06-2008, 08:39 AM I Saw the Event and He Looked OK.. But In the OVERTIME He Looked INSANE.. I Thought He Looked Great..
Sato is No Pushover.. 2 Time MAX Japan GP Champion.. Also I Think Buakaw Aura was A Bit Blown Up.. Dude is Sick but I mean He Looked Less than Spectacular Against Masato in his last fight before this ..
I Got Kyshenko winning the Whole thing..
thaiboxer 02-06-2008, 04:29 PM Buakaw really took it to him in the extra round. But if he would have thrown more kicks into his attacks I think he would have unbalanced Sato even more. Buakaw really got rocked at the end. He's lucky that there wasn't any time left!
Fedor=#1 02-06-2008, 09:30 PM Well I guess since I didn't see the whole fight, I might've over-reacted a bit.
But still, that careless mistake he made at the end... if it was a guy like Zambidis who punched him, he would've gone to sleep, IMO. If he does face Zamby again, I'm hoping he doesn't use the same strategy and use his legs more to keep the distance.
dragonfly 02-07-2008, 09:26 PM thats how buakaw got dropped by masato, by standing & boxing instead of kicking...
thanks
Fedor=#1 02-07-2008, 10:36 PM Actually, funny thing is that, he actually got dropped by Masato when he went for the inside low kick...
dragonfly 02-08-2008, 04:31 AM idk why buakaw didnt stick with his bead & butter, kicks, specifically his teeps, given masatos granite chin... i was impressed with how much buakaws striking improved when he fought souwer, but boxing with masato meant he was trying to go for the ko, crazy...
dragonfly 02-08-2008, 04:33 AM i understand the logic behind it, buakaw didnt want the fight to go to a decision, but i still think he was crazy to go that route, all things considered...
Rudy-D.F.F!!!! 02-11-2008, 04:31 PM The xtra round uyyyyyyyyy poor Sato..buahahhaa

Well it all started in 2006, in that year...
- It started with KOing Jomhod Kiatadisak with a right hook to the body.
- Then KOing Sato with a left hook in the 2nd round.
- Dropping Drago with a right hook.
- KOing Souwer in the finals, all 3 knockdowns coming from his punches.
- And KOing Shishido out cold with a left hook, with his first punch.
These are pretty tough opponents too, some of which having some granite chins of their own, so it's no wonder it would boost his confidence in his punching ability.
But overall, I believe he's using more punches in his game now, to adapt more to K-1 rules and judging... K-1 has really handicapped Thai fighters now, with removing multiple knees in the clinch, and elbows being illegal (Probably Buakaw's favorite weapon). It really puts Thai fighters in a disadvantage, and I'm sure that's K-1s intent, naturally, they want the Japanese fighters to be the champions, better for business. Like in the K-1 World MAX 2004, when he fought Masato the first time, that fight shouldn't have gone to an Extra round, just shows how biased the judging was at the time, however, Buakaw's reaction to it was priceless, haha.
But in the 2nd fight, Masato definitely earned that victory, big mistake on Buakaw's part... and you're most likely right, not wanting to go to the judges decision and thinking he could get the KO was heavily dwelling in his mind. But he was destroying Masato's legs in the first round, Masato wasn't checking them low kicks, I guess so he could get in those combos, although it did cost him later on. If Buakaw just continued throwing those low kicks, Masato's legs would probably give out earlier, cause those kicks he was throwing were brutal, even for a guy as tough as Masato, you can only take so many of those shots before you can't stand up anymore...
With that aside, I remember hearing somewhere that Masato stated that 2007 was his last tournament he would participate in, can anyone clarify on that?

the thing about the 04 max finals, i believe even masato didnt feel that an extra round was necessary hence, kakuda getting fined & suspended...
yeah, buakaw really fucked up masatos legs which is why i found it even more unusual that he chose the route he did... great fight nonetheless
excellent post...
Alekhine_Lord 02-13-2008, 02:29 PM Buakaw seems to be the shadow of his former self.
elgee 02-14-2008, 12:19 PM wicked fighter.
