I'm a smaller guy (5'6 155 lbs) and I often go with guys much larger than me. Alot of the times I'm getting to the point where I have their guard passed, but I have trouble consolidating side control, and my opponent will grab half guard easily because its so easy to get it on a small guy like me. Against guys with the a similar weight I don't have this problem, but with bigger guys its an issue. Suggestions on how to effectively avoid pulling half guard and/or techniques to break/pass the half guard.

well im smaller to and i actually like when guys get half guard when i pass bc it helps me set up my mount...when the guy gets half guard i just push down on the far knee and slide my leg thru and put my knee to the mat...so simple and amazingly easy especiallly if your shorter

o yeah and bc we are shorter we can do some funky ass kneebars from the half guard which are easiere to get bc of our size

I know what you mean about pulling through to mount. I'm able to do that about half of the time. Most of the time, guys will just cling onto me, not even let me do anything at all. But I do remember this choke was very effective, and will probably start using it again:

if they jsut cling you got to sit to ur hip on the side of your half guard to create the separation and hook inside the knee and lever it forward as opposed to pushing down on it and the guy in half guard will sometimes try to jsut bridge and powere out but that just makes it easier bc he will have to release ur leg and you can jsut step over this should work pretty easily the majority of the time and most of the time whene you try to step through you can get your whole leg thru except usually my foot is still caught in the half guard but that doesnt even matter

looks like a funky darse... i think a big strong guy with a strong neck will get out of it, i think the darse is better all around

try hitting it with the arm in, instead of pumbling with your right or keep an overhook and lock it the same way that is the darse, it pwns

and as a wrestler, (especially an east coast guy, i know how vicious you guys are when ridding) you can hit it with a three quarter nelson, and then when you get their head in almost like a stack lock it in the same way and bam you have a darse choke

control the guy's head by pulling im in tight, one arm under his head, one under his far arm and box lock it, then suck him in tight, and keep your knees in tight and drop your weight

As long as you do the Brabo choke right from half guard, exposing your back like that shouldn't be a problem. As long as the choke is tight, there is little you can do to get out of it expect fight it like a mother fucker. I think its alot tighter. But the past couple of weeks I've been putting myself in alot half-guard positions. The more I practice it, the more comfortable I am with it.

If I get stuck in someone's halfgaurd, I turn around and setup the kneebar. Take your time, sit on their belly and be sure to lean foward so they cant sit up or grab the back of your collar.

I honestly should go for them less.... Also when you are sitting on them you can figure 4 over their ankle and get a knee compression.

It is really hard to explain jitz via typing
