Rupp recuited the best players he could. He even recruited Unseld and Beard, long before he finally signed his first black player, and they considered coming to KY but backed out and decided that they didn't want to play in the SEC for fear of what would happen to them when the Cats played in Mississippi and other southern states.

Yeah, that is a good and bad thing about basketball, it is good because you don't become uninterested because your team is out of contention after a few games, with the bad side being that the beginning of the season doesn't really matter. I like it much better this way though.

It took two overtimes but kentucky knocked off previously unbeaten and 13th ranked vanderbilt 79-73 in lexington today. We're 7-7, so i ain't bragging, but at least this win gives us a glimmer of hope that we might not be playing in the NIT this year.
