View Full Version : Hey guys, I need some advice on how to gain wait.
Metalobserver 12-30-2007, 07:55 AM Hey guys i need some advice on gaining weight. I eat fried food everyday since i was a freshmen till now(23 years old).
Ive always wanted to have a body of a bodybuilder for some reason when i was a little brat and i still do, so i was eating fried food since.
But no matter what i eat i wont gain a pound. Well, i gain a pound but it goes away in a day. I try everyday very hard trying to gain some weight but i just cant for some reason. Just last week i went to my docter to get a physical and they said there was nothing wrong with me.
I eat eggs every morning and fast food atleast 3 times a week for about 7 years straight (I eat fried food everyday though). Am i doing it wrong? I really want to turn some fat into some muscle.
Or is there a healthy way of gaining some weight? Because i cant eat fried food for the rest of my life because bad heart runs through my family.
Please help me guys.

good posting...
Count Calories... get a rough estimate of the number of calories you burn in a day... then add 500 calories to it every day. It is IMPOSSIBLE to not gain weight if you eat more calories than you burn through the day...
So say you do one of thoser online calorie estimation things and it says you burn 2,500 calories a day.... start eating 3,000 calories each day, if you don't gain weight after a week add another 250 calories, keep adding 250 calories until you notice the scale moving... gaining weight sucks
As for lifting, if you are just looking to put on mass I recommend you do short workouts (between 20 and 30 minutes) with these lifts; Bench Press (incline or flat), Squats or Leg Press, and Pullup or Lat Pulldown... be sure to add reps or weight every workout so your muscles constantly get stronger
When I was putting on mass a while back I did Incline Press, Leg Press and Lat Pulldowns... I don't remember my rep scheme though, I know I did 3 sets of 3 to 6 reps (I think), once I hit 3 sets of 6 reps I would add 5lbs for Bench and Pulldown and 20lbs for the Leg Press...
You have to eat, you have to lift big... and as much as it goes against everything I think you should do, I highly recommend you avoid cardio... or at least keep it to a minimum... if you are going to do cardio, punch your weight and the amount of time you did the exercise into an online calculator and replenish the calories burned
As for foods to eat; Chicken, Whole Eggs, Milk, Yogurt, Beef, Pork, Fruits and Veggies, Beans and Legumes, pastas (whole-grain) and bread (whole-grain)... and Peanut Butter (preferably natural)
You will need to eat a lot, so make sure your carb choices are packed with fibre, there is nothing more offsetting to a fitness plan than a body filled with food that won't pass easily through...
Just remember to keep track of everything... workout numbers, calories, step on the scale every morning after you shit but before you eat....
Hope this helps

I wouldn't do it... a lot of people do and it does no harm but you might be that 1/10,000 that gets extremely ill from it and causes death... not worth the minute risk imo
VENDO 01-01-2008, 03:31 AM oh and Mass really doesn't have much to do with weightlifting, it does. However, Diet is the one that adds muscle.
If you do mass workouts but your calorie intake is 1500 to 2500, you'll get more leaner, ripped. If you take in more like 2600 to 3500, you'll get bulkier.
So diet is what makes you bulky, or ripped. Choose one.
Fedor=#1 01-09-2008, 08:11 PM I also have a very high metabolism...
But like everyone says EAT.
I eat like 5-6 meals, and try to get in 2L of water a day.
I think I gained like 20 lbs in 2-3 months when I first started and that was without fast food or any other junk food, stick with healthy diet, it's more beneficial and you'll feel better.
jomomma 01-09-2008, 08:55 PM you dont turn fat into muscle, you break down muscle thru workouts & your body rebuilds using what you eat on rest days which is why better nutrition = better muscle
this should help with diet http://ninjashoes.net/forum/showthread.php?t=36485
here's a beginner rippetoe workout I saw on another board:

Metalobserver 01-10-2008, 06:55 PM Wow, great advice guys. Thanks
blevunly 01-12-2008, 11:05 PM Squats release the most growth hormone out of any exericse. You should be using big compound movements like Squat, Dealift, Bench, Rows, Pull-ups, Dips, and Overhead pressing. Accessory work can be done after the big lifts.
Check out Westside for Skinny Bastards in the link below for a good routine or atleast an idea on how to set up a routine.

Also as everyone has already mentioned nutrition is the most important part of gaining weight. If you don't eat you won't grow.
Metalobserver 01-15-2008, 05:08 AM Squats make you grow taller?
blevunly 01-15-2008, 05:17 AM Squats make you grow taller?
That's not what I was saying. I was talking about gaining muscle. You grow taller by eating right getting plenty of sleep and your genetics.
