Well, I installed Yellowdog Linux on it a year ago to play world of warcraft on it when I had a shitty computer, it models itself as a computer and it's easier to change IP cause it's a console, I forget why theres a ton of reasons to hack your ps3, it is a supercomputer potentially.

YellowDog Linux is essentially a PC Operating system thats a little more complicated, I wasn't able to install any updates for wow (because it was a Ps3 it couldn't download information) I had to copy the completely updated WoW file from my computer to an Ipod, then connect the Ipod to the PS3 and upload the full file onto the hardrive similar to how I did with the Linux.

When I got a new computer though I just completely wiped all the data off my hard drive (which turned out to be the most complicated process of all of this surprisingly) and now it's working as a normal Ps3 should. It was fun usuing it as a computer though, it was really powerful.

You can only do this if you have the original 60 gig Ps3 (cause of the media ports)

I'm guessing its just like the PSP mod. Different operating systems, custom icons, emulators, perhaps the use of Firefox. I did all of that with my last xbox. It was a novelty that didn't amuse me for that long but at the very least I could copy games. Game modding is in it's infancy for PS3 so i'm guessing that's not an option right now

Nah blu-ray is too complicated to emulate and copy ATM liek that.

All the modding cummunity can really do is emulate a PC and older gaming systems like usual.

BlueRay isnt that difficult to emulate. There have been some big strides in the past couple months.

Copying and Playing a copied version on a console with roughly 6 complicated NTSC hoops to jump through are way different things lol.

If I were to easily explain it, burning a Cd and playing it in a Car stereo, as opposed to copying a games data files and playing it on a standard XBox360. It takes alot of tech work from the end user.

you'd be surprised, I know a few knuckleheads that are downloading 360 games, burning them and playing them, weeks before them come out no less. On a side note it's trying to master the drums on Rock Band that's giving me a headache lol.

Yeah I'm workign on vocals on expert for my band right now, it's tough shit.

And yet guitar and Bass is so fucking easy on expert.
