I just watched the new season of family guy last nyt it seems like its starting to lose its edge. it was still funny but there were alot of moments that reminded me of the new simpsons episodes, not funny. And on top of that anyone see that subay commercial with peter griffen. FUCK SELLING OUT

Family Guy has been getting way too stale lately. It hasn't eroded as far as the Simpsons as yet, but shit has it ever gone downhill.

Ever since returning, Family Guy was never as funny. It was a case of a cult classic going mainstream, losing it's edgy and original humor in favor of more conventional nastiness. In a way, it's just stereotyping itself instead of being original.

That was great.

And for everyone who thinks Simpsons has gone downhill I suggest you try to broaden your horizons, maybe attempt to read a book that isn't by Stephen King or Dan Brown and pay attention to history, politics, philosophy and other "non-pop culture" issues. Simpsons is too smart for its own good and many of the jokes sadly fly right over the head of today's youth.

You're going to have to explain this one to me.

Give me an example of how new Simpson's is "too smart"? Simpsons has gone downhill terribly. Homer is a completely different character. Clever gags and great storylines have been replaced by shitty gags and lame one liners, rediculous storylines and shitty celebrity guest appearances that seem to serve no purpose other than to allow the Simpson's makers to meet said celebrity.

Yes, I'm going to rewatch this seasons episodes so I can give you some exact examples because the last episode I have seen had me howling with references to some historically witty philosophical statements as well as some subtle mockery of the current American administration.

What I think the Simpson's does so well is combine the subtle humour with the obvious humour without being overly offensive like South Park, Family Guy and American Dad. Out of the previously mentioned three, I believe South Park to be far superior, but no where on the level as the Simpsons. As I've grown up with the Simpsons I continue to watch older episodes and find humour in them that I originally never saw because of gained maturity and knowledge, much of which has come from post-secondary education. I'm not saying you need to have attended college to understand Simpsons humour, but being educated(including self education) about things other than sports and who Paris Hilton is dating, increases the amount of jokes to be had from the program.

I really liked this show at first but after a while I kinda got tired of it. It was so random with its multiple narratives that while I originally credited it for that reason after I while I faulted McFarlane for it, thinking that he does it for his lack of ability to create a singular story per episode. Plus while I can enjoy a dirty joke as much as the next man it just appeared like he was using shock value to gain viewers. lame

Family Guy was NEVER the Same when It Came Back... Really Dismal Writing Staff..

Same As the Simpsons though.. The Magic is Gone.. BOTH SHOWS SERIOUSLY NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF COMISSION!!! Unless they Can Completely Change Their Writers.. WE NEED CONAN BACK ON THE SIMPSONS!!

Again I'm not doubting you but you're going to have to provide some examples because I really have no idea what you're talking about.

"some historically witty philosophical statements as well as some subtle mockery of the current American administration."

Surely if you remember the themes you can remember the episode or at the very least the scenes or gags that had you howling? I've grown up with the Simpsons too (and have 2 1/2 years of University under my belt if that means anything to ya) and I have no idea what you mean. To me it makes no difference what is being referenced or mocked if it is not being mocked in a comical way. If you like the fact that you "get" some obscure reference to philosophy, than thats your perogative. But they also did this back in the day, only they did it with great stories, hilarious gags and well crafted dialogue.

The fact you've gone to University means nothing to me as I had previously stated that it only allowed me to understand more of the jokes from continued learning of subjects that I wasn't exposed to, up to a highschool level. I also stated that it doesn't matter if you learned from University or were self taught, as long as you knew the subject matter.

Secondly, the point I'm making is that they are still making great stories with well crafted dialogue and I've already stated I will re-watch them to give you examples but I can only remember laughing really hard at some reference to one of the scandals of the Bush Administration and also connected with a joke about philosophy that I tried to explain to my friends who didn't find it funny at all.

I'm not offended (like you said I was in your neg rep). All I did was ask you to elaborate on your opinions. Surely if you can come here and post some pseudo-intellectual bullshit about people not being "smart" enough to understand new Simpsons, I figured you could give some reasoning to it.

Like I said I'm not offended, I have nothing against you, but let this be a lesson to you: don't spout off about stuff you have no knowledge of, because sooner or later someone will call you on it.

Yes, I will take a "lesson" from a keyboard warrior because I don't agree with him that the Simpson's has gone downhill.
