I got a quick question for all you boxing gods. I was watching ESPN Classic a few days ago and Holyfield was fighting Foreman. Anyways they showed Foremans record and it he had at the time like 69 fights with 2-3 loses but he had 65 KO's. So my questions is George Foreman the heaviest puncher at heavy weight in boxing history.

P.S He lives about 15 minutes down the street from my house.

Yep, along with shavers.
There is a couple of the PSI numbers going around where they measure punching power, and had Foreman topping the charts, but I just don't know which one is correct.

Because a few had Tyson's PSI over Foremans, and Shavers.

If you see The Ring Magazine list of the 100 Greatest Punchers Of All Time, its Joe Louis. Check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_greatest_punchers_of_all_time.
Foreman is number 9 in the list btw.

I disagree with that list.

Why?

Foreman was definately heavy handed. Tyson is up there, Frazier, louis. etc...

Foreman hit hard.

All heavyweights are heavy-handed because they are heavy and therefore pack a punch (pun intended) when they punch their opponent. That's why you rarely hear of lightweight boxers hitting hard compared to heavyweight to welterweight.

Definatly Foreman and Shavers. I'd have to give Shavers the nod though, because Ali said shavers was the hardest hitter he fought and he fought Liston, Frazier, Foreman, Quarry, Chuvalo, ect. And Larry Holmes said Shavers was the hardest hitter he ever fought, even harder than Tyson.

Based on anecdotal evidence, I'd have to say Shavers.

Based on pure visuals, Foreman knocked Frazier into the air, and Tyson knocked guys across the ring (albeit 1/2 were cans).

Top 3 are undoubtedly Foreman, Shavers, Tyson and you can argue all you want about them... Tyson had the best hand speed of the 3 in his prime but Foreman and Shavers were just bigger guys...

Who's number four? Liston? Or do we just drop it from there. Marciano and Archie Moore were two more devastating punchers but both guys were less than 200 lbs. Marciano crushed the old Joe Lewis and knocked his ass through the ring though so lets not completely discount him.

I like Marciano but I think people overrate his power. P4P he was probably one of the hardest punchers ever, but You can't expect a 185lb guy to punch as hard as a 220 plus guy. I mean watch him teeing off on Cockell (who said that Rocky wasn't the hardest puncher he fought). Its hard to imagine Cockell lasting that long under a Foreman, Shavers or Tyson barrage

People seem to forget that tyson was tiny comapred to the guys he fought, and yet still knocked them out cold..

tyson wasn't 6'3 235, 240, he was 5'11 who somtimes came in at the weight of 215.
225 was the average tyson came in at.

it seemed like foreman hit alot harder when he was older because of the extra weight.

"Joe Louis was 175 years old!"

Its Joe Frazier not Joe Louis.

Its Joe Frazier not Joe Louis.

It was a 38 y.o Louis who came out of retirement to be KOed by Marciano.

Larry Holmes had an interesting analogy of who hit the hardest."When you get hit by Shavers its like getting hit by a truck, when Tyson hits you its more like a corvette, its Tysons speed and sharpness that make him effective".

Ali said that no one hit him as hard as Shavers, even Foreman.
Mike Jameson, who fought a young Tyson and also a 39 y.o Foreman said Foreman hit much harder than Mike."Foremans punches go right thru you"
Holyfield said Foremans power was more jarring than Mikes.

Marciano was a windmill but at 187 its hard to imagine he could possibly compare to men 30-40lbs heavier.Joe Louis was a great puncher but at 200lbs he also depended on a blend of speed and sharpness to be effective.

Judging by the evidence its
1.Shavers
2 Foreman
3 Tyson

On a sidenote I seen some footage of Foreman pounding the heavy bag b4 the Ali fight [When we were kings]and anyone who witnessed George leaving large watermelon sized dents in the bag while trainer Dick Saddler holds onto it for grim life would have to be in awe.Writers and those in the know commented that no HW hits the bag like Foreman. Its quite a site.

I'll never forget that footage either. It was scary to watch. Looked like he was going to kill someone if he hit them like that. "Ali boombaye"- I would worry about the other way around after seeng that.

So I think a younger Foreman hit harder than the older version of Foreman due to that video.

He missed a lot of what could have been great fighting years when he stopped boxing for so long. But it turned out it made all the difference in his life.

Ali had to sacrifice his body (and maybe his health) to have a chance to beat Foreman at his peak but Ali was willing to.

There were however flashes of ENORMOUS power... The 1 punch KO of Walcott in the first fight, (IN THE 13th ROUND!) is still one of the all time brutal shots
