Hmm, most likely safer but also annoying. I don't wanna wear that shit when I'm fighting, unless it be shin guards and gloves. Helmets are annoying to me since I like using spinning back kicks and I could never adjust to twisting my giant head with a helmet weighing it down lol.

My buddy is fighting on October 7th and I'm cornering him, it's gonna be in an underground fight since MMA is banned in NYC. It's Vale Tudo and so people wear what they want, his opponent is supposed to be a Judo guy who has fought before.. They said last time he fought he didn't wear gloves, he wore his GI and had shin guards and a Helmet! lol.

SO I know some people think of it as safer, I can't wait to see that dude fight my friend cause he will probably come into the ring in a giant women's self defense suit. lol

It really does annoy me with the headgear.
I think they do it because of the mental factor of the fighters. They want to feel a little protected, but in reality, all it does is make you not feel the glove on your face, the impact is still there, the headgear might absorb it alittle, but not much.
but I guess they got people tricked into thinking its safer, but it really isn't. If someone hits hard, your gonna feel it. I'm talking from an amatuer boxing stand point.

that's what separates the pros from ams.

Kevin Rooney said it was all a mental thing, and he always said that he never had mike tyson wear headgear when he sparred, because he thought it didn't make a difference as far as safety reasons, and he also said some people when they wear headgear, they get to comfortable, and sometimes take the hits, but when you aren't wearing headgear you are more alert, and ready to dodge punches, cuz you know you don't have head gear to protect you. It's ALL MENTAL, if you ask me.

^exactly! Now I click the Rep box right? lol... will do..

I don't train with head gear nor do I make my "students" either, the impact is the same and it just makes you become reliant on something that doesn't aid you.

It's a security blanket.

Most people is not accustomed to hits on the head without headgear so amateur boxing is readying you for that. Its a bitch but essential for you to withstand the blows from your opponent when you turn professional. My one cent.

Headgear most definatly takes a lot of impact off the punch, I can tell you that first hand. You gotta be crazy to think it does nothing.

ALSO it helps avoid cuts. So you're training for the big fight without headgear, you and your sparring partner clash heads and now you have a huge gash on your head a few weeks before the fight. Great move. With headgear that shit doesn't happen.

I'm gonna go with kevin rooney on this one.
It takes off impact, but not as much as you think.

I think it may seem harder though without head gear cause you can feel the glove on your face.
I'm just going what kevin rooney says.

Although I do agree with beanflicker as well, Im just standing from my personal experience that's all.
