is it really useless? all you hear is people talking about how you shouldnt take it to the ground in a street fight does this make the ground game obsolete?

It's not completely useless, everyone needs to know the stuff since it would help 'em greatly.. my little bro fought some guy and upon falling the kid rushed in the hit my brother but my brother intercepted him with a double leg and then got to mount where he pounded the kid and choked him.

So Bjj is useful in the streets however I think it's not as useful as others because you can't roll on concrete. My brother was missing CHUNKS of his skin and he only took a guy down and got mount, imagine if Jacare was rolling with Marcelo Garcia in an out doors street fight!

Also, Renzo broke his knee cap when he shot in during a street fight. Lol, I guess by using the 16inch mats he forgot how hard the ground was.. lol. Plus BJJ can't fight multiple guys.

Almost everyone of the techniques that Bas uses in this video are part of the system I train in. It's great shit for taking care of business.

Boxing > BJJ in a street fight.

Boxing > BJJ in a street fight.

Not too sure about that. I believe if I was in a rumble in the streets I'd want boxing skills but my friend got into a street fight with a failed golden gloves boxer lol, and simply took him down and pounded him until we all broke that shit up.

It only works if you are fighting one person in a street fight but realistically street gangs tend to attack in groups.

Apart from the very good advice of not going to the ground against multiple opponents (which means any real life fight, since you never know who might decide to interfere), I think that it is important to be a well rounded fighter with both striking, standing grappling, ground game and weapon skills.
If you come from a style that has all these elements and fight against someone who doesn't (eg. a judo guy or a TKD guy), then often you'll see that their game is hampered by not knowing how to handle attacks outside their domain.
For instance the TKD guy will kick more hesitantly than usual because he's afraid you'll catch his leg and throw him.

Next time you train bjj, do it in an alley and see how you feel. It can be effective, but your definitely not going to enjoy your self nearly as much as a quick knock out.

bjj is usefull...just workm on your throws more, and if more than one person dont go to the ground with someone.

If its 1 on 1, throw them and ground and pound.
If they are bigger than you...kick to the nuts.

***dont forget soccer kicks

A good move combo is the hip toss followed by soccer kick to the head....they wont fuck with you after that.

"Everyone underestimates the kick to the groin...."
I think having a solid ground game can help you with your striking immensely. You can attack without fear of the fight going to the ground.

eh.....the "Not with multiple opponents" bullshit gets tiring. As if you can really box 2 or 3 guys either unless you are fighting total bitches. 6 fists < 2 fists. They don't come at you one at a time and you can't expect "one hit/one kill" karate bullshit.

Its not that.

Grappling is very slow paced, you close the distance, you take the opponent down, get positioned such as the mount position, start throwing punches, or maybe a submission, if you are going for a submission its gonna take awhile to set it up. I mean like a RNC, etc atleast for a street fight, its gonna take awhile, or atleast to long.
If you are throwing punches from the mount, they are not gonna knock him out, you are controlling him, and hurting him but that's it. Street fighting has to be done and over with QUICK.
That's why people agree with Bas about grappling in a street fight.

Who cares, do what you love, don't do it for the street fighting, or to be tough.
Do it, and see what style you like better, rather it be boxing, thai boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, grappling, and whatever else.

same here but honestly Ive seen more end with a 1 punch sucker KO which is pretty hard to train for at all, just dont get in someones face I guess, control the distance

you could still get sucker punched from behind, shot or blown up though so...
