or will people buy anything that Blizzard pumps out?

They could seriously release SHIT IN A BOX IX and everyone who has ever owned a Blizzard game would buy it.

WoW, an average mmo, sells many times better than any other mmo out there simply because it's Blizzard.

People still play Diablo 2.
Why? Titan Quest is pretty much Diablo 3 so why not just switch over to it? Because it wasn't made by Blizzard?

Starcraft was good for its time, but nowadays it completely sucks.
Resource management are the worst kind of strategy games. No one wants to play economics, they want to play war!

Oh yea, and Warcraft 3 is the same thing! Starcraft, Starcraft 2, Warcraft, Warcraft 2, and Warcraft 3 are all pretty much the exact same game! You play one and you've played them all.

Well that's my rant. Agree? Disagree?

AoE is far superior to either war- or starcraft. i do tend to agree a lot about blizzard tho. i never really got the hype behind WoW at all. it may be slightly prettier than most MMOs, but it is definately far inferior from a gameplay standpoint. FFXI is still best in my humble opinion. as for their RTS titles, they are fun for a bit, but after about 2 hours i get bored as hell. i never really got diablo in the first place, that game never held my interest at all.

Starcraft is one of the best games ever, how can you say "now it sucks"?

Noway does it suck now, its perfectly balanced and well....fun as hell. The game was made a decade ago and I would still rather play it than any other computer game. Warcraft, Diablo and the Starcraft series are all excellent high quality games. World of Warcraft took MMORPG's to a whole nother level even though personally I dont get into online rpg's.

WARR BLIZZARD

The reason Blizzard games are so good is because they listen to the people and playtest extensively.

While most of your arguement is opinion-based, the WoW statement is not. It has nothing over any other mmo except for the fact that everyone plays it.

Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo are high quality? In what way? They are 2d games, except for Warcraft 3 which is mediocre imo. Look, they have their entertainment value, but Diablo is surpassed by Titan Quest, and resource based strategy games (all Blizzard strategy games) are inferior to REAL strategy games such as the Total War series. They are less a test of strategy and more a test of habit. How fast can you micromanage your economy?

Different people have different preferences but the success of Blizzard titles cannot be downplayed or blamed on idiots who have "the emperor wears no clothes" syndrome. If that were the case people wouldnt still be playing Starcraft to this day. Hype goes up but if the quality isnt there it goes down real quick usually right after the game is released.

Shit I'll even play old nintendo games, the good ones at least.

The resource management issue doesent make sense to me, Starcraft has basic resource management and well, like I said, its just really fun and thats why Blizzard has a good enough reputation that people will buy their games based on their reputation because they make great games.

3-D does not equal a good game, its all about gameplay. I have played all the hit titles that have come out in the past few years and I still keep going back to play Starcraft and Dota.

The other Blizzard titles are good but STARCRAFT is the best computer game ever made.

I just upgraded my computer in anticipation of Starcraft 2, I will definetly preorder that game too. I spent a good portion of my life playing Starcraft, never has a game had so much replayability.

BTW please don't ask me to describe why its good if you don't like it then you don't like it I'm not gonna change your mind by describing what I like about it. If you don't have fun playing it then you arent gonna start because of something that I say, its just not your type of game.

I've tried a few MMO's and seen a few others in action. None of them to me seem to have that extra polished feeling that wow has. The level design in pretty much all the other mmo's seems totally linear compared to wow. Character design and music just seem of a high quality too. That's just my 2 cents though

Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion and realize it's just a matter of preference. People like certain genres and others don't, but my point is that the same game could be released by a different company and suck in the market.

Yes, Blizzard got that way for a reason - they made a bunch of fun, simple, and catchy games that appealed to the average guy, and then developed a hardcore fanbase.

But people tend to overlook better games because they are not titled Starcraft, Warcraft, or Diablo.

Diablo 2 is a fun game if your into action rpg's, but have you ever played Titan Quest? Put it this way: It is exactly what Diablo 3 would be. Yet few people have played it, and Diablo 3 will sell like crazy. I guarantee it.

Blizzard strategy games are a different story. They have an entertainment value, but lack the true strategy that the Myth and Total War series have. I have respect for Starcraft because it was an originator, but Warcraft 3 is completely behind the times. It is no different than any other Blizzard strategy game - and don't give me that hero shit, big deal.

And if your not into the slowpaced, hardcore strategy games like Myth and Total War, then why don't you try Battle Realms? It came out the same time Warcraft 3 did and has the same sort of gameplay, but doesn't overemphasize resource management, and has more tactical combat.

Look, Blizzard is not a bad company. That's not my point. My point is that superior games will be overlooked by those who aren't hardcore gamers. Basically, tuf newbs think Chuck Liddell is the greatest person to ever walk the earth because of Dana and the UFC.

I havent played very many of the new RTS's but I can definetly say that Starcraft is badass to this very day and I still love it. I do agree with you to an extent though about certain things.

Most people I know who are hardcore about Warcraft 3 are playing the Dota maps, I don't really care so much about the regular game but Dota is insane and unlike anything I have ever played, its a completely different thing than an rts, its more like a FPS but topdown perspective, the possibilities and twitch skill in that game are insane.

So I somewhat agree with you about Warcraft 3, it wasnt anything to write home about but the community created Dota from its map editor so well its not really Blizzard there but it sorta is.

Wow is pretty damn good for a MMORPG, I'm not saying its the best because I havent played them all but I did not like the battle system at all it was just like Everquest which was really simple and stupid. I am really looking forward to trying Age of Conan. I prefer a quick rts than a life consuming MMORPG though.

Diablo is Diablo, its a simple game and while I enjoyed Diablo 1 there were too many cheaters so I quit and never tried Diablo 2.

The thing is though I don't want them to change Starcraft at all, I mean new units and shit will be cool but why fuck with an almost perfect game that so many people still find fun? I would be pissed if they changed the gameplay too much, Warhammer pretty much took what Starcraft did to a whole new level but its just not as fun for some reason.

Have you ever heard of name recognition in regards to game companies? The reason Titan Quest isn't going to sell as well as Diablo 3 is simple. Its the same reason an awesome game like Rogue Galaxy or Star Ocean will never sell as well as Final Fantasy CLXIII. People know the name, know Square made it and they have put out quality in the past and therefore the game doesn't need to be advertised. It already has a hype machine behind it. Nobody knows Star Ocean and nobody knows Titan Quest. Thats why there is less drive to pick it up.

uh... yea that's kinda what i was saying.
I was talking about how it's a shame things have to unfold that way, and how people need to venture outside the box to realize that Blizzard isn't the best.

I suggest trying Titan Quest, if your computer runs it well. It everything Diablo 2 has and then some.

I can agree with this post.

I enjoy my occassional dota game, but it's not diverse enough to play as often as some people do. For me personally, the more complex a game is the more replay value it has because the more you can do. That sort of makes sense, right?

Your love for Stracraft is just fine, but do you think that the same thing could of happened with a different rts if you ended up playing it instead? I can think of plenty of rts's that are an "almost perfect game". Most people that really like old Blizzard games have been playing them for years and are intimidated by anything new unless it is a sequal.
