WBA champ has eye infection that could end career

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine has an eye infection that might end his career and leave his sight permanently impaired.
"The infection's that severe," his manager, Khoder Nasser, said Tuesday. "They're just going to have to fight that first before they can tell what's going on."
The 32-year-old boxer will spend at least a week to 10 days in a Sydney hospital, where doctors will try to save the sight in his left eye, he added.
Mundine's eye is believed to have become infected last week when he cleaned a contact lens with his mouth.
Eye specialist John Males, who is treating Mundine, said Tuesday he was not optimistic for a full recovery.
"It is unlikely that he will regain full vision in this eye," Males said.
"We're doing our best at this stage to treat it and minimize the effects of this condition on his eye," he said.
Khoder said Mundine now has no vision in his left eye.
Mundine told a television network Tuesday he is considering a life without boxing.
"Not just boxing but any sport really," he said. "Sport's a big part of my life (but) I'm just happy I've still got my life."
I'm never fuckin around with my contact lenses again. I knew you could get shit but thats fuckin horrible. I don't even like him but I feel bad for the guy, I can't count the times i've taken that sort of thing lightly with my contacts.
