Can someone please upload a pic or vid of someone displaying proper posture when in someones guard....(nogi)..or just explain well in detail...

details as in ....where are hands....arms bent, straight,???
arched up back, head up, head down?? pics would be great.!!!...

granted people are able to slide hips out and angle but how should I be to minimize arm bars and triangles in specific...

my idea is...
back slightly arched
arms extended (almost full)
elbows in tight on legs
head slightly up
hands open exerting a lot of pressure on opponents lower stomach

Thanks so much guys...really appreciate it

You can also put your hands around their hips and really control their hip movement.

My instructor always says "Don't make eye contact".

Because that means you are looking down and not straight ahead like you should be.

Posture is a poor word for the concept as it implies that you're static. Posture depends entirely on what your opponent is doing. Instead of "posture" think "put myself in a position that minimises what my opponent can do and maximises what I can do".

So if you're in someone's guard with no gi and they're just lying there then good posture is:
* body upright - looking straight ahead helps with this
* instep flat on the floor - don't put the balls of your feet on the floor as this tends to pull your centre of gravity forward
* don't sit on your feels - lift your butt about an inch, yes this does burn your thighs but you're not staying in this position for long
* push your hips forward - think stick your cock in, it helps with being upright
* elbows tight - touching your ribs to avoid opponent getting underhooks
* hand position depends on how you like to pass. I prefer one hand on opponents hip and other lightly on opponents stomach. If you place your palm on your opponent then beware of wristlocks

Now if your opponent is moving their hips a lot, your posture will change to account for this.
* squeeze your knees
* push down harder on their hip

If they're still moving their hips and you can't control them
* drop your head onto their chest
* drop your elbows to the floor and lock their thighs between your elbows and knees

Once they stop trying to move their hips switch to another posture and work the pass.

Remember that posture is dynamic and depends entirely on how your opponent is moving.

What is the problem that you are having in the guard? Are you having difficulty opening the guard, avoiding sweeps or avoiding submissions?

To make it really simple: sit upright with your back straight, and keep your arms tight to your sides as if you were a T-Rex. That will kill 90% of submissions and sweeps with a little bit of practice. But it sounds to me that you simply need mat time. All these little details will become very obvious to you in a few months (sounds like you are pretty new).

Thanks so much guys.....I mostly am trying to improve this to give me a little piece of mind from primarily armbars and triangles...so I can work my passes

and when you say arms pinned in like a t-rex is that pinning thier thighs to my legs or keeping my elbows pinned to my stomach with them on top of the thighs of my opponent....thanks so much

^^^^
It's your option. If you want to put some pressure on their legs, you can put your elbows in their thighs while keeping your arms tight (T-rex style), or you can just have your arms tight to your sides, resting on top of their thighs while you take a pause and evaluate your next move.

My instructor always told me to keep my ass to the ground and back bent slighty at a 45 degree angle. If you bury your head into your opponents stomach it is bad posture.

definitely DON'T lean back when your in someone's guard as i quickly learned a a beginner that if you do this too much heavier/stronger opponents can sometimes just sit up and lean into you to take mount

Yeah...Im not saying weight shifted back....just a semi-arched back...when upright.....

my weight still remains 85% forward..most in which is on my hands controlling his hips

Be careful with this. Your weight should be supported by your legs, not your arms. A strong opponent will pull you forward and upset your balance if you keep your weight over your hands. You only need to put your weight on his hips when you are preventing him from moving them, or are opening the guard.
