Former boxer James Oyebola shot in face after asking men to stop smoking

LONDON (AP) -- Former Commonwealth Games medalist and British heavyweight champion James Oyebola was in critical condition in a London hospital Tuesday after being shot in the face outside a nightclub where he worked as a bouncer.

Oyebola was shot early Monday after asking three men to stop smoking inside the club in London's Fulham district.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Wilson of the Metropolitan Police said three suspects, aged between 19 and 25, ran from the club in separate directions.

"It is a horrible crime to happen anywhere but over nothing -- an incident such as smoking -- these people need to be caught," Wilson told the British Broadcasting Corp. on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old won bronze at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in the super heavyweight division and was the British heavyweight champion from 1994 to 1996.

I'm not familiar with the guy but all the best to him. I worked at a local night club as a bouncer and regularily had to tell people to stop smoking in the club and on the deck outside, and I know how angry and hostile some people can get for being told to put out there cigarette (smokers are just like any other drug addicts IMO). But to try to blow someone's brains out for telling you not to smoke, thats insane.

I hope this senseless act doesn't go unpunished. Does anyone if he's still alive?

he died last week they had to turn the life support off, most of londens underworld are looking for the people who did this to punish them properly
