View Full Version : PS3 20 gig upgradeable? joek1978 07-23-2007, 01:25 AM a buddy of mine has the 20 gig and he says that theres no need to get the 60 or 80 gig because the 20 gig is upgradeable. can anyone else confirm this? Dert McGert 07-23-2007, 01:32 AM I don't think so. The only upgradable console is the 360. You can remove the hard drive and replace it with a different one. There is a 120 gig and 20 gig hard drive for the 360. I am not 100% sure since I don't have a PS3, but I am pretty sure that you can't. Rynoplasty 07-23-2007, 02:19 AM If it is I have never seen a hard drive for sale for one, and I don't know how to take mine out. I have the 60 gig though. ninjashoes 07-23-2007, 02:38 AM I might as well get the cheap one then. Pcmaker 07-23-2007, 02:42 AM I'm pretty sure there's a way. Depends on your skill of technicality. joek1978 07-23-2007, 01:05 PM My buddy says that you can pull it right out from the back. Chickenjorge 07-23-2007, 01:05 PM  Rynoplasty 07-23-2007, 05:33 PM Yeah but do you have to buy a special hard drive to put in or can you just put any hd in there? Like I said I have never seen a Ps3 Hard drive for sale and I would Imagine they wouldn't want you putting any hard drive in there, plus It wouldn't have all the info the Ps3 hard drive had on it that the system uses. sean damon 07-23-2007, 08:04 PM theres a panel on the side, if you unscrew one screw the drive will slide right out. i pulled mine out to verify it was 60 gb since it didnt have the box with it wehn i bought it. sean damon 07-23-2007, 08:54 PM Yeah but do you have to buy a special hard drive to put in or can you just put any hd in there? QFT Dert McGert 07-23-2007, 11:50 PM But they don't sell replaceable hard drives, do they? I have yet to see them. Rynoplasty 07-24-2007, 01:16 AM But they don't sell replaceable hard drives, do they? I have yet to see them. Not that I know of. I am sure there is a way to hook it up to an external memory source though, I have heard of this with the 360 at least. Dert McGert 07-24-2007, 01:21 AM Not that I know of. I am sure there is a way to hook it up to an external memory source though, I have heard of this with the 360 at least. You can with a 360, but you can only play music or videos you downloaded from your PC. You can't story things from your 360 to your PC right now. Only game saves. joek1978 07-24-2007, 01:29 AM we will see in time then wont we Dert McGert 07-24-2007, 01:36 AM we will see in time then wont we I don't know. Will we? Rynoplasty 07-24-2007, 02:01 AM uyyyy, Wait for see bros. Trolly 07-24-2007, 05:27 AM I've heard they are going to be selling upgradable hard drives a little after the 80g comes out. Also there is a few tutorials on the net on how to DIY. I understand that the 20g don't have the integrated WiFi, flash memory reader, HDMI output. Rynoplasty 07-24-2007, 07:31 AM ^^^^^The direction Sony has been going with marketing the Ps3 models and accessories is really starting to piss me off. First of all, even the 60 gig model was stripped down and I am sure the 80 gig model will be as well. Sure the 60 gig has wifi and more ports, but it comes with power cable and standard definition composite cables. No HD cables of any kind, no remote, no headset, no games, one controller and one tiny tiny charge cable for the controller. You have to be up close and personal with your ps3 to charge that mofo, anybody that has one knows what I am talking about. I think it is only about three feet. sean damon 07-24-2007, 03:56 PM ^^ yea man that charge cord is short. when i first got mine i didnt realize the controllers were wireless and i was pissed that thats all the cord they gave me. i just keep the cord plugged into my CPU so when im not playing i can charge it with my CPU. Eventually I am going to get one of the longer cables when I actually want a game. Thats a good idea about using your pc, I might try that. johnrcarter 07-24-2007, 07:40 PM all of your questions can be answered at www.ps3scene.com Here is a link that shows how to upgrade your HD http://www.ps3scene.com/news/static/PS3DIYHarddriveUpgradeVideo-1164657658.php For the Xbox fans www.xboxscene.com sean damon 07-24-2007, 10:17 PM wow, that metal gear video looked sick. I thought Joeking was asking if Sony has released a hard drive that is okay to replace. Not one that voided the warranty. Rynoplasty 07-25-2007, 03:50 AM Those are mod sites. Not one that voided the warranty. No, you don't need a special hard drive. Any 2.5 inch 5400 RPM hard drive (they're notebook hard drives) will work, and it will NOT viod the warranty. Way to make up lies to make the PS3 seem bad though most of you guys. Keep up the good work. Manimal007 07-26-2007, 01:33 AM By the way, it tells you how to upgrade the HDD in the manual and it's very easy. Dert McGert 07-26-2007, 01:41 AM No, you don't need a special hard drive. Keep up the good work. I just didn't want to take the time to see the video. I just assumed the PS3 hard drive switch would void the warranty since you are doing it yourself. Sony has done enough to ruin the PS3 right now. They don't need my propaganda. Dert McGert 07-26-2007, 01:43 AM This is how I look at the PS3. Blu-ray dvd player. That's it. I wish there was more games out that were exclusives that I haven't played on 360, but there really isn't at the time. Plus, I never got into MGS, so MGS 4 isn't a big thing for me. This guy was asking a simple question, he doesn't need your guesses and assumptions. This guy was asking a simple question, he doesn't need your guesses and assumptions. I didn't say anything outlandish. I have kept from bashing the PS3 in this thread. If you read the first post in this thread, I had pointed out that I haven't seen a hard drive for sale in Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal Mart, etc. Please keep your facts straight. I had thought that since they don't sell a hard drive, that replacing it yourself would void the warranty. Sorry if that pissed you off Mr. Sony Executive. But pretty much everything you said in the thread was wrong. Dert McGert 07-26-2007, 03:04 AM But pretty much everything you said in the thread was wrong. Just my thoughts. I figured that Sony wouldn't allow you to replace the hard drive by yourself. Also, with one that isn't a factory Sony PS3 hard drive. MicroSoft sells their hard drives. I didn't know Sony thought it might be okay for 3rd party hard drives to go into their systems. And please review what I have said through this whole thread. I had yet to say something damaging about the PS3. Not until today. Manimal007 07-26-2007, 03:15 AM Just my thoughts. I figured that Sony wouldn't allow you to replace the hard drive by yourself. I understand what you're saying, but that doesn't change the fact that you were wrong. Sony did a very consumer-friendly thing by allowing us to use any bluetooth keyboards, mice, and headsets; and any notebook hard drive. Yet people who don't know what they're talking about come in this thread and say no you can't, it will void the warranty, etc. It pisses me off because I see the same incorrect negative stuff about the PS3 on every forum. Wrong or not, I was unsure and even said that. I do bash the PS3 do to lack of games right now. I like what they tried, but they have lot a lot of exclusives that made Sony stand out from others. Like I said, it has a blu-ray player and that is the only reason right now that I would purchase one. Sony really hasn't tried to make their system stand out yet. Don't get me wrong, though, I was crazy for the PS2. That was one of the best systems out. I regret selling mine. There is a lot of Sony bashing in all forums. It's a fact that Sony has made a few bad choices that they thought would be better in the long run. Their system hasn't been out too long, but I do hope that Sony has some stuff that would make me want to buy a PS3 for more than a blu-ray player. vBulletin® v3.7.4, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. |
