a buddy of mine has the 20 gig and he says that theres no need to get the 60 or 80 gig because the 20 gig is upgradeable. can anyone else confirm this?

I don't think so. The only upgradable console is the 360. You can remove the hard drive and replace it with a different one. There is a 120 gig and 20 gig hard drive for the 360.

I am not 100% sure since I don't have a PS3, but I am pretty sure that you can't.

If it is I have never seen a hard drive for sale for one, and I don't know how to take mine out. I have the 60 gig though.

I might as well get the cheap one then.

theres a panel on the side, if you unscrew one screw the drive will slide right out. i pulled mine out to verify it was 60 gb since it didnt have the box with it wehn i bought it.

Not that I know of. I am sure there is a way to hook it up to an external memory source though, I have heard of this with the 360 at least.

You can with a 360, but you can only play music or videos you downloaded from your PC. You can't story things from your 360 to your PC right now. Only game saves.

I've heard they are going to be selling upgradable hard drives a little after the 80g comes out. Also there is a few tutorials on the net on how to DIY. I understand that the 20g don't have the integrated WiFi, flash memory reader, HDMI output.

^^^^^The direction Sony has been going with marketing the Ps3 models and accessories is really starting to piss me off. First of all, even the 60 gig model was stripped down and I am sure the 80 gig model will be as well. Sure the 60 gig has wifi and more ports, but it comes with power cable and standard definition composite cables. No HD cables of any kind, no remote, no headset, no games, one controller and one tiny tiny charge cable for the controller. You have to be up close and personal with your ps3 to charge that mofo, anybody that has one knows what I am talking about. I think it is only about three feet.

^^ yea man that charge cord is short. when i first got mine i didnt realize the controllers were wireless and i was pissed that thats all the cord they gave me. i just keep the cord plugged into my CPU so when im not playing i can charge it with my CPU.

Eventually I am going to get one of the longer cables when I actually want a game. Thats a good idea about using your pc, I might try that.

No, you don't need a special hard drive. Any 2.5 inch 5400 RPM hard drive (they're notebook hard drives) will work, and it will NOT viod the warranty.

Just my thoughts. I figured that Sony wouldn't allow you to replace the hard drive by yourself. Also, with one that isn't a factory Sony PS3 hard drive. MicroSoft sells their hard drives. I didn't know Sony thought it might be okay for 3rd party hard drives to go into their systems.

Wrong or not, I was unsure and even said that. I do bash the PS3 do to lack of games right now. I like what they tried, but they have lot a lot of exclusives that made Sony stand out from others. Like I said, it has a blu-ray player and that is the only reason right now that I would purchase one. Sony really hasn't tried to make their system stand out yet. Don't get me wrong, though, I was crazy for the PS2. That was one of the best systems out. I regret selling mine.

There is a lot of Sony bashing in all forums. It's a fact that Sony has made a few bad choices that they thought would be better in the long run. Their system hasn't been out too long, but I do hope that Sony has some stuff that would make me want to buy a PS3 for more than a blu-ray player.
