EMELIANENKO VICTORIOUS
Aleklsander Emelianenko Submits Dutchman In Mixfight M-1 Main Event
By Stash Capar (stash@thefightnetwork.com)
Aleksander Emelianenko rarely gets the spotlight all to himself, as he carries both the blessings and curses that come with being the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko – a man widely considered to be the greatest fighter to ever walk the Earth.
Saturday night was the exception, as Emelianenko starred in the main event of Mixfight M-1 “Russia vs. Europe” in St. Petersburg, Russia. The 25-year-old submitted Jesse Gibson with a straight armbar in the first round, as his older brother sat in the broadcast booth alongside UFC veteran Oleg Taktarov.
A late substitute for Dutch striker Gilbert Yvel, Gibson shocked Russian spectators when he dropped Emelianenko (11-3) with a front kick to the body and took half mount in round one. Emelianenko worked from his back, reversed and took side control before he submitted the Dutchman moments later.
* European Correspondent Stash Capar will provide a detailed report in this week’s European Round-up.
