View Full Version : What kind of Gi should I get?
kermitthefrayer 07-15-2007, 05:17 AM So I'm ready to move up in the gi world. I'm tired of gi burn and cheesy collar chokes.
So suggestions any one?
Koral?
Mitzu?
Atama?
Help please!
Thanks in advance.

I bought a blue Kagi single weave when they were on sale for $55. It's really a great gi for the price. The pants are actually the best I've owned. The only thing is, the jacket is like a judo gi, with the two piece skirt, but it's cut like a jiu jitsu gi.
Anyway, they're a great value.
kermitthefrayer 07-16-2007, 04:29 PM So koral then I will post what I order when I do.
brandon42o 07-26-2007, 09:24 PM Black...dont get a white one...make sure its for BJJ not karate.
mfs_elite1 07-27-2007, 06:20 AM I personally like atama but koral also makes a very good gi.
VENDO 07-27-2007, 06:38 AM Koral..
Resin 07-27-2007, 06:49 AM Pink Gi
I've got an Atama and have no complaints. I like the way it's been made, its a good solid gi imo.
VTXRaider 07-28-2007, 10:29 PM I like my Koral and Gameness best and then my Atama
odin1 07-29-2007, 02:19 AM Dude get the Atama single thread. Much lighter, more freedom of movement, and less for opponent to grab. I like way better than my gameness gi which is double thread. Its hot as shit, bulky, restrictive, and rubs when trying to pass tightly.
Peace,
lancaster 07-29-2007, 04:49 AM You need to try on a gi to feel if it fits right for you. It really depends on your body shape. The Koral fits me like a glove, but is too bulky under the armpits for some of the other guys at the gym. You really need to wear the different types of gis to know what's best for you.
Himelickmaneuver 07-30-2007, 04:11 AM I received an Isami gi as a gift. Can't believe how comfortable it is. Can almost where the pants like pajamas.

Kundurp 08-04-2007, 11:56 PM I have a black Koral Gi, with kobra kai patches (dunno why or how they got there).
Good choice IMO

It depends on the weave more than the brand. The heavier thicker ones that you are looking for are going to cost more but they will last longer too. I just got a black Gameness Triple Weave that is fucking sweet. I've had a heavy Rio Fight Wear for almost 3 years now that has hardly frayed at all. My Red Nose and Koral both fell apart first.

Best answer. I happen to like the heavier gi, whereas some prefer the lighter. Depends on your preferences. Don't order one on line, buy one that you tried on first.
Obi Narb Kenobi 09-12-2007, 06:24 AM vulcans are confertable as fuck i'm going to stick with vulcan gis
kermitthefrayer 09-12-2007, 04:06 PM I ended up with a Koral MKM white with black trim and rash guard I love it!
lalsh 09-14-2007, 07:30 AM Try a Vulcan Gi. It's lightweight and I've have mine for over a year with no problems. Even better, it costs around $90.
CJNewBernBJJ 10-12-2007, 05:51 AM Gameness or Koral... in white or blue.
