and it fucking blows. resource hungry and incompatible. even though my laptop is a 1.7 ghz dual core with 1 GB of DDR2 which is not half bad, the performance leaves something to be desired.

generally when i get good computer hardware it's because i want it to be fast, rather than slow because of a bloated operating system.

it was due for a reformat so i figured i might as well do a vista/linux dual boot setup on it. big mistake. i'm going to put XP back on that mofo.

My buddy programs... Vista is a huge drain on resources for most all systems but it is an incredibly powerful operating system. It works in its own psuedo 3-dimensional environment. The whole Minority Report thing where they are moving pictures around with their hands and pulling them forward and pushing them into the background and expanding/drag dropping them is what inspired it. If you wanna know what Vista and Vista alone is capable of doing because of the way its arcitecture is set up - check out DirectX10 and the games coming out for it. HOLLLLLY SHIT

it is powerful, very true. the "3d" interface is junk, though. check out the beryl window manager for linux instead.

Fuck Microsoft letting the public live beta test their new OS. I love my 360 though!

yeah that is basically what we're doing. beta testing.

i actually tried an old actual beta version of vista last summer and it was junk. i figured i'd try it again now and see if the release version was any better. it is, but it still has problems.

When has a MS OS ever worked well on marginal hardware? Trying to get it to run on anything less than the latest hardware with at least 2gb or ram is not worth it. If you have the horsepower it is sweet.

Vista sucks period. You can clearly see how evil MS is in releasing a software where most of your programs (2000 and XP compatible) won't work with it. Why not just upgrade the architecture?

AND its very resource hungry? 2G for my OS alone? (1G the min) I do plan on running other programs though (AV, office, etc). I'll stick to my Xp and 2k.

Also, never ever buy an OS from MS without an SP1 release!

Hardware is relatively cheap...my problem with it is Vista costs almost as much as the hardware to run it. The benefits of Vista are not great unless you are using media center or bitlocker encryption. For everyday use XP is still going to work will less hardware requirements. My 2cents

I work as a developer (in windows) and yes, Vista is god awful. I was never a Microsoft advocate, but stick with XP if you aren't buying a new computer. If you are buying a new computer, get an OS X machine, you won't look back.

MS is thinking that making it "pretty" is enough to jack the price.

I just bought a computer and I keep switching between my new one and my old one. I wish I had read this first. My old computer has 1 gig of ram and an AMD semprom 2.00 Gh processor and runs beautifully with XP.

My new laptop has 2 gigs of ram, a dual AMD processor at 1.7gh and runs like shit. I already trasnferred a bunch of shit though. Now I don't know what to do. I don't have an actual copy of XP on a disc though because neither computer came with one.
