Don Felix Trinidad, father and trainer of former world champion Felix 'Tito' Trinidad has confirmed the return of his famous son -- and announced that Roy Jones Jr. is now preferred option as an opponent. Papa Trinidad stated on Puerto Rican radio station WIAC that Team Trinidad has accepted in principle the proposal presented by Don King last week, subject to purse and opponent. According to the elder Trinidad, he was informed by King that Jones Jr. is interested in fighting Tito.

Roy Jones Jr, Likely Opponent For Felix Trinidad.

By Mark Vester

(Translated by Mark Vester)

As previously reported, a meeting was held last weekend between former three-division champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad and promoter Don King, discussing a return to the ring in January 2008. The meeting took place at King's Isla Verde hotel suite in San Juan, Puerto Rico. (Click Here For More Info)

Several opponents were discussed, including Jermain Taylor, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., the winner of Hopkins-Wright and Roy Jones, Jr.

Primera Hora reports that Roy Jones, Jr. is the likely choice for Trinidad's comeback opponent, if Trinidad actually goes through with his plans to return. Jones would have to win his upcoming light heavyweight bout on July 14 with undefeated Anthony Hanshaw in Mississippi.

Mayweather has called for the fight, but Trinidad's father/trainer said Mayweather would be too small to make a fight with his son. The fight with Jones would be a catch-weight of 170-pounds.

"Roy Jones is a more of a real fight for Tito", said Felix Trinidad, Sr. "It's not news that Tito left (boxing) because I left. But, Tito is very healthy, never any problems and his body responds well him. He still has a lot of potential".

Trinidad's father said his son is already back in the gym.

I'm not even going to get excited.RJJ is going to puss out like he always does when he's up for a fight that might possibly be interesting.

He'd get his ass stomped by the way.

I think the hype has a chance to be exciting even if it won't be near as close as the de la hoya fight. But until it's been signed and RJJ can't punk out,I'm holding back. And if he does sign, hopefully he'll actually help promote it.

Do you think that Tito has enough left to get back into the title picture, or is this one last run to pick up some wins and money?

Probably money only.I don't see him being a top title contender unless he goes Hopkins/Tarver on rjj.Which is entirely possible now that I think about it.

I hate Trinidad.

*George Formean will cum on himself if he sees Trinidad fight again...if you are wondering what I am referring to, please rewatch the Hopkins vs. Trinidad fight again. The whole night Foreman was on Tito's nuts and not giving credit to Hopkins for DESTROYING Trinidad. Larry Merchant was putting George in his place all evening when stating that Hopkins is the better fighter.
