I had a guy try the same thing on me last week. He didn't set it up properly, and just tried to pull his shin in front of my face when I was in his guard. I grabbed his foot, pushed it to the side, and passed his guard just like you did.
dragonfly 06-27-2007, 02:01 AM kewl vid, thanks for sharing...
noamgd20 06-27-2007, 02:28 AM you had a lotttt of opportunities.
and by the way, why you dont get your hooks in?!?!
Resin 06-27-2007, 03:15 AM Nice rolling. His gogoplata attempt was pretty dumb though.
u mean the omapolata i never saw his opponent go for a gogo.
I was expecting X to finish him very fast.
Nice disengagement at the end.
Who's giving instructions?

Well, he pulled his shin in front of Xhale's neack, so it could have been an omoplata or a gogoplata. I assumed he was going for a gogoplata since it's a trendy move. Either way, it was a poor setup and not a good idea. It's good to try different things in training, but people are trying these rubber guard moves without really understanding the system and how to setup the moves. I even went to a seminar taught by a black belt who basically told us that the rubber guard is when you get a high closed guard and hold your shin or pull your shin in front of your opponent's face. He also said Marcelo Garcia has a great rubber guard. Obviously the guy was just trying to capitalize on a fad.
Nick16watt 06-27-2007, 09:58 PM You had a golden opportunity in the rubber guard. Shoulda just kept hugging the knee and working your foot into chill dog.
Nicely done though. Some nice transitions. I'm at about your level I'd say.
xhale 06-28-2007, 01:02 AM you had a lotttt of opportunities.

i dont know, a bad habit of mine is to lock my arms with an arm and neck around my opponent before i try for my hooks.

Nick16watt 06-28-2007, 06:08 PM Haha. I do the same shit. I notice opportunities too late. I've been getting better at that by just relaxing and thinking while I'm in a good position.

Slouch{ADR} 10-20-2007, 06:28 AM my rubberguard is strong.
+1 if you have balanced hips its good use to sweep from the bottom when your opponent tries to manuever out.
imo rubber guard is a great bluff move...but no doubt a fad for teh gogo
gogo=overrated
lancaster 10-20-2007, 06:39 AM xhale, you leave too much space when you're on top. Your opponent had many opportunities to escape, he just didn't realize it. Consider slowing your top game down until you learn to control better.
