Ricky Hatton, a two-division champion and undefeated in 42 fights is the favorite on paper when he meets Jose Luis Castillo, also a two-division champion, but lost seven of his 55 bouts. The fight takes place in Las Vegas on June 23, and televised by HBO.

In an interview with the BBC , Castillo said that Hatton's record and his list of beaten opponents do not impress him. In his opinion, Hatton does not have a single big win over a top opponent on his record, even Kostya Tszyu, who Castillo says was past his prime when the fight took place. Even with seven losses, Castillo stands firm on holding the better overall record in the fight.

"I don't think for one minute Ricky Hatton's record bears any comparison with mine," said Castillo. "He is 42-0 but things like unbeaten records can be very misleading. I am not bothered about it. It will end. I have fought and beaten some of the best fighters in the world whereas Hatton hasn't got names like Diego Corrales, Floyd Mayweather or Joel Casamayor on his record. He fought Tszyu when Kostya was on the way down and even then Ricky had home advantage."

That doesn't mean he's overlooking Hatton, he predicts an all-out war, but a war that Castillo has no intentions of losing. According to Castillo, speed will be the key to victory because Hatton likes to face fighters who are slow.

"Hatton is a good, strong fighter, but I am going to knock him out," said Castillo. "Hatton is there to be beaten and I know I am going to be the first boxer to do it. My trainer told me he has never seen me any better in the sparring I have done. That is a warning to Hatton and he should know that on 23 June it will be a war. I am going to win that war. Hatton will have never seen anything like me. I have the best upper cut in the division and I will use it against Hatton. Ricky is used to slow, cumbersome fighters, but I have real hand speed and that will cut him down."

I'd love to see JCC win this one.Im unsure if hes a little past it though. He has a lot of mileage & has fought some hard wars.Hatton is fresher & younger and I have to give him the edge, having said this it wouldnt surprise me if JCC rises to the occasion & pulls it out.
JCC is a true mexican warrior who doesnt know a back step,Hatton too likes to fight in the phone booth & I know that this fight wont dissapoint.
WAR CASTILLO!

This is going to be a real good fight, but I see JCC winning. I think he'll pull out the decision, but I could see him stopping Ricky on cuts or even knocking him out. But like you said JCC is getting up there in age and has been in a ton of hard fights, so we'll have to wait and see.

This will be Hattons second hardest test but I think he might have lost something after the Kostya Tszyu fight. Why he should have lost something after beating him so soundly I don't know.... But he seems to have. Maybe its just because Collazo is (even after losing badly to Mosley) a little underrated (because Mosley isn't getting enough credit for demolishing him in an awesome performance) and his last fight against I don't remember who but the guy was tough and strong... We all know who Castillo is and what he's about.... Lets see if Hatton has still got it. War Hatton

I dont like the way Hatton drinks & balloons up between fights. He can get away with it while hes young but he wont have a long career.
Not unlike Bowe gaining weight & losing it rapidly his whole career Hattons time at the top will be limited IMO.

Castillo to finish sparring!
Two-time lightweight world champion Jose Luis "El Temible" Castillo will have his final day of sparring this Thursday as he puts the final touches on his preparation for his mega fight against British Ricky Hatton on June 23 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Castillo has being training in Tijuana for the past six weeks under the watchful eye of veteran trainer Romulo Quirarte who took Manuel "Mantecas" Medina to five world titles in the featherweight division. "I feel great here in Tijuana. We have worked very hard for this fight and it will show on June 23 when I take on the "Hitman" Ricky Hatton," said Castillo from the CREA Gym (located in the Zona Rio of Tijuana). Castillo will arrive in Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 19th. Promoted by Banner Promotions and Fight Academy in association with Top Rank, the 12-round Hatton-Castillo rumble will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10PM ET/7PM PT.

I hope he has no probs with the weight, sounds like he had a good camp and weight is a non issue.

Agreed... And he doesn't have the same wilting power at 147 as he did at 140. He's still young though and he might realize that and cut back for a while to make the big money fights before he retires. That would be nice. As to JCC he's not training at altitude? Neither of the guys are. I think that would be a big step for Hatton and him being able to be the nonstop action fighter that we've seen him be in the past.
