View Full Version : Is Tarver the most overrated champ in boxing?

I mean most people knew Shannon Briggs was a crap champion but some people seem to actually feel Tarver is championship material. I guess thats what happens when you starch a way past his prime RJJ. Tarver had to survive a Mixed decision against no namer Elvir Miriqi tonight. I think the guy is garbage and always have. Can't wait for any number of the talented super middles to move up and beat his sorry ass.

Catch AIDS and fight him in a street fight - then knock out Don King when you lose...?

Tarver got his height and punching power, but I was never convinced that he was that good. It's really sad to me that he was the one to beat RJJ after his prime passed. Louis got whooped by Marciano, Ali got whooped by Holmes, and RJJ has the distinction of being whooped by Tarver, what a fucking travesty.

BTW why the fuck did Tarver start his career so late? He is Roy's age, he has been boxing just about as long as Roy has, but he started his pro career like 10 years after Jones did.

That being said I did like the guy because he was charismatic and could talk real well. I know its racist for me to say this, but he looks about as "African" as someone possibly could, he looks like he should be running through the jungle with a spear in his hand trying to find food. He don't even look like someone you'd think would speak English (or at least would speak with a crazy accent like Sam Peter). But instead he's a lot more articulate than 99% of boxers out there, he was a REAL good smack talker.

whos gonna win out of him and Dawson?

I think Dawson for all his inexperience and not that heavy hands has more than enough natural ability to make Tarver look dumb. Bad Chad has been knocked down a few times though so he can't get cocky his chin isn't iron.

He's definitely overrated.

By who? Everyone here is bashing him.

He's considered the #1 or #2 light heavyweight in most cases. And he considers himself the the most underrated fighter today or perhaps even ever. I'm not sure just how big his ego is.

I think hes lucky there is nobody worth a shit at LHW except for Bad Chad who is still super young.

I'd like to see that.I totally bought into the hype before the Tarver/Hopkins fight.I'm an idiot.I'd love to see him get ktfo ala RJJ.

I have never liked Tarver. You have to have done something right to get a belt in boxing but right now the LHW division is weak. When Glen Johnson and Montel Griffin are still contenders you know your division in in trouble.

Not only is Glen Johnson a contender. He is one of only 2 real contenders (along with Clinton Woods) worth a damn. And Johnson has 11 fucking losses!!!! This is a guy with 11 losses thats well past his prime and hes the cream of the crop. Somewhere Archie Moore is crying.
