OK guy's so i recently havnt rolled in a while. how ever 2 days after my last roll wich was on the 9th i got what looked like a cut on my face. i didnt pay any attention to it at all. then i got my wisdom teeth out and i was just noticing sitting at home all week that the cut like abrashions started growing and mulitiplying. i imediatly thought that it was staph once my gf said maby its a rash then i went to the doc and he confirmed it. now my questions are how can i prevent from getting it in the future? as well any info you can add on staph and just help in general

use anti bactirial soap... none of that irish spring or dove bullshit...

i honestly use anti bactirial hand soap from costco it comes in a big 1 or 2 gallon jug. i even had some fungus on my shoulders and back and just by using this it went away a hell of a lot faster and i havnt had it since. its healthy for you skin and you could always use a nice shower gel after words. this way you dont use up all your shower gel, plus it smells and stays on you longer.

see if that helps... hopfully that shit dosnt spread too much it will leave a scar.

make sure they mop the mats where you roll with a proper mat cleaner that has ingredients that kill MRSA, a must now-a-days.

The other key is to shower ASAP after rolling, I make the team shower before they leave the school, and I shower when I get home.

I had 0 cases of anything this year and 1 case of ringworm last year, you gotta be disciplined.

shower before and after training, mop the mats every day, launder your gi or rash gaurd regularly, get a blood test. Alot of people have low levels of staph in their bodies without any symptms. then if they get a miner cut or zit it can get very infected. People who do speed can have problems with this because of their weakened imune system.

Yeah man make sure they clean that mat every day! At my dojo they clean after every class or at least once a day with anti bacterial spray and fresh dust mops.

The bacteria staphylococcus aureus ("staph") is commonly found in the environment, and many people have some living on their skin or in their nose. Eliminating the bacteria on skin requires antibacterial soaps. Eliminating it in the environment requires antibacterial cleansers. Careful reading of product labels will help you identify those that are known to destroy staphylococcus aureus.

Good hygiene and sanitation practices will help eliminate and prevent occurance of the bacteria, but since it's a normal part of the environment and one of the most common disease-causing bacteria in humans it's going to be impossible to totally eliminate it. Perhaps it would be more useful to discuss how to prevent staph infections, instead.

Staphylococcus aureaus is not generally a problem for people with healthy immune systems. However, for anyone with a compromised immune system, or if the staph bacteria is able to enter the body, it can cause infection ranging from very mild to (occasionally) life-threatening. Most often an infection is caused by staph entering the body through an open cut or wound, which is why it's so important to properly clean and disinfect even minor cuts and scrapes. Less common are staph infection in nursing mothers (caused when the bacteria enters though cracked breast tissue) or women using tampons (where it manifests as Toxic Shock Syndrome). Again, good hygiene will eliminate much of the potential for these infections.

Some strains of staphylococcus aureaus have become resistant to the most common antibiotics used against them. This is why it's very important to take all the antibiotics prescribed for such an infection, even if the symptoms have disappeared. However, these resistant strains are most often found in hospitals, where special efforts are made to control them with professional grade disinfectants.

The more you know about good hygiene and staphylococcus aureaus, the less likely you are to have a staph infection. Here are some links with useful information:

that very well could be a version of staph called impetigo similar to what the TUF guys got a couple of seasons ago, you need to get to the doctor to figure that shit out.

these pics are the worst cases I had ever seen, the times I have seen it before it looked like funky acne.

that shit can spread quick, the year before I took over my HS team they had an outbreak that hit half the team because of one dirty kid who refused to take showers after practice (or at all). Last year a whole team near us got it. That's why I told the guy to go to the doctor, it's pretty easy to get rid of early, but as you can see from those pics it can get bad.

I have been training 2 and a half years now and have not got anything...yet.

1. Wear a rashguard.
2. Carry the waterless hand sanitizer and use this immediately after rollling on your hands and face.
3. Shower with anti bacterial soap and shampoo as soon as you get home.
4. Take a daily vitamin to help keep your immune system strong - I also take airborne anytime I feel like I am getting sick and that helps too; you are more succeptable when you are under the weather.
