WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KOs) won a slow-paced twelve-round split decision over IBF 154lb titlist Cory Spinks (36-4, 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. In a tactical fight with very low punch output, Spinks had some success outboxing Taylor at times, but Jermain landed the harder shots. The scores were initially announced incorrectly by ring announcer Michael Buffer, however Taylor won 117-111, 115-113 on two cards, with Spinks surprisingly ahead 117-111 on the third card.

Its undeniable that the undercard far outshined the main event. That doesn't really come as a surprise because of the style matchups, but it does leave us with what looks like a great matchup in Pavlik/Taylor.
