In the bout we've all been waiting for, middleweight Kelly Pavlik (31-0, 28 KOs) scored a spectacular seventh round knockout over Edison Miranda (28-2, 24 KOs) in a WBC eliminator. In a spectacular first round, both fighters traded punches the full three minutes, with Pavlik pressing the action. More toe-to-toe action in round two as both landed and absorbed major league bombs. Pavlik's aggression allowed him to keep Miranda backing up and off balance as he outworked Miranda over the next few rounds. Pavlik finally knocked down Miranda twice in the sixth. Miranda spit out his mouthpiece after the first knockdown and was deducted a point by referee Steve Smoger. A Pavlik barrage floored Miranda again in the seventh and the fight was stopped. Time was 1:54.
