Tyson, and Toback..
Director James Toback is in the ring with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on a feature documentary.
Toback will prepare "Tyson" using more than 30 hours of recently completed interviews with the ex-champ. The director said his subject pulls no punches in chronicling every aspect of his rise and fall.
Damon Bingham, Harlan Werner, Tyson and Toback are producing. The film will be finished in the fall, and ICM will sell worldwide rights.
Toback told Daily Variety that he's been fascinated by Tyson since they first met in 1985, just as the fighter was about to win his first title at 19 (he became world champion at 20). He put Tyson in his movies "Black and White" and "When Will I Be Loved," and they stayed in touch.
After the boxer emerged clean and sober following a recent rehab stint, Tyson and Toback decided it was time to tell his story in detail.
"The point is not to polish his image or make a cinematic apology, but rather to get a firsthand look at a very complex and epic story," Toback said.
Tyson said he was "humbled and appreciate that Mr. Toback gave me an opportunity to be involved in this project. I will, to the best of my abilities, give a truthful account of myself."
Beanflicker 05-16-2007, 02:21 PM Its Tyson, so it definately will be interesting.
Tyson seems like the kind of guy who would be honest and give a truthful account of himself, and that always makes for a more interesting story. Thats why Jake Lamotta's story was so interesting, he pulled no punches, made no excuses and gave a truthful look into how he was.
Elduderino 05-16-2007, 03:30 PM what are they going to do when he goes back to jail this summer on pending crimanl charges

I just watched the sportcentury documentary, that seemed a little fake to me..Most of the people that were talking about him and that docummentary were all biased, and said shit that wasn't even true about tyson..
oh well, I agree..
and I cant' wait to see this docu..
Beanflicker 05-17-2007, 02:20 AM said shit that wasn't even true about tyson..
Like what? I never seem the documentary ( i dont think)
It would be good to see a Tyson Doco that has more of Tyson talking in it, usually I watch a Tyson doco and its got everyone but Tyson talking about him
VENDO 05-17-2007, 03:20 AM Like what? I never seem the documentary ( i dont think)
Like they said things that seemed to make tyson bad..Like, "he liked to hurt women during sex", and then a another docu I think it was mike's untold story doc, it said "that women use to call mikes house the day after mike was with him, and say he was such a gentleman"..So I don't know what's true..
and in the sportcentury docu, it said asomething about when tyson was a kid he strangled a kid, and they said he used to punch old ladies teeth out.. The only thinkg I know about tyson was that he used to steal alot, i.e. Radios out of cars, etc.
Beanflicker 05-17-2007, 05:08 AM Tyson was a street hoodlum, so I wouldn't rule any of that shit out.
I heard Teddy talk about how Tyson would mug people (including old ladies). Teddy is an honest guy, I have no reason to doubt it. As good a fighter as he was, outside the ring he seems like a scumbag.

Which is reasonable..
But I mean johnny, the guy that's been with tyson since the beginning, said other things that made tyson look like a great guy..So that's why it makes things confusing.
He said he hanged out with tyson for a week, and he said tyson was just a big sentimental softy, they went to the movies together, etc.. And when tyson was leaving, he gave a big hug to johnny.. , and johnny said, "Tyson hugged me, but he did it to everyone that treated him well."
nzjujitsu 05-17-2007, 09:03 AM didnt tyson try to rape teddys daughter, and then teddy was gonna shoot tyson? right
blevunly 05-17-2007, 09:26 AM Yeah, I saw Teddy talking about that in a documentary. He put the gun to his head threatened him and then was booted from the camp. I don't think he tried to rape her, just touched her when she didn't want to be, if I rememebr correctly.

Correct..Tyson said he just grabbed her butt.
Beanflicker 05-17-2007, 02:40 PM I think Tyson has changed since he got into religion. He said he doesn't even kill bugs no more haha.

Yeah lol..
even when he was 20, I saw him do charity events, etc.
I'm sure he has agood heart, but he is crazy as well..lol.
I look 4ward to this doco. It'll be refreshing to c a truthful account of his life & viccititudes.
Mikes alright in my books, his disreguard for money[he was always giving it away]and his "what u see is what u got" persona is real as it gets. He's 100% genuine, everyone has their foibles its just that Mikes became public knowledge giving ammo to tabloids and his critics.Sure he's goofed a lot but he's done his time like a man and paid his dues.
