View Full Version : Floyd Not Impressed With Miguel Cotto.
By Mark Vester
During a recent interview with the Newark Star-Ledger, WBC junior middleweight champ Floyd Mayweather, Jr. touched on the subject of a bout with unbeaten WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Mayweather told the paper that it's premature to talk about a fight with Cotto. He views Cotto as a good fighter, but also says Cotto makes way too many mistakes to ever beat him.
"Cotto is a good fighter, but he's too flat-footed," Mayweather said. "His punches are too wide. He'd never hit me. I'd see them coming all day. His good hand is his left; he's a converted southpaw like Oscar De La Hoya. The left hook I'll see it coming all day. His jab's too slow. And he makes a lot of mistakes."
Cotto meets former welterweight champion Zab Judah on June 9 at New York's Madison Square Garden. The bout will be the feature attraction of an HBO pay-per-view

Now thats a fight Id love to see.Cotto wis favoured to beat Zab so after that we can only hope him & Floyd get it on.
Floyds better off at '47 & a fight with Cotto may well be the best fight in the division.
OTHLN 05-18-2007, 10:29 PM Not surprised, I rarely hear Mayweather going "this guy is nuts". Especially if it is somebody that is his possible opponent.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 01:08 AM Mayweather disses, (and ducks) all his opponents that actually pose him a threat - I.E. Cotto - Mosley - Margarito - and (by his roughhouse style alone) Ricky Hatton - Floyd would trashtalk Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler if they were fighting today. The guy is a walking talking bullshit machine and a joke.

He's the #1 P4P boxer in the world. How the hell is he a 'joke'?
If u don't like him, fine, but why talk out of ur arse & refer to him as a bullshit 'joke'.
Beanflicker 05-20-2007, 01:45 AM Jimmy speaks the truth. You think guys like DLH and Judah don't pose a threat to him?

These guys hate Floyd so much that they lose perspective of the reality of the matter.
All these haters can do is grasp & grope at any kind reasoning they can find that will help justify their negative opinion of him.
They cant even give him his dues, after all he;s accomplished.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 01:55 AM The guy is by FAR the most physically gifted fighter in boxing. Hes damn near twice as fast as anybody else and been raised boxing so his ring generalship is masterful. The way he has turned his career into what I refer to a joke is any fighter that is particularly dangerous to him being undefeated he avoids. Then he proceeds to call himself the G.O.A.T. In the words of Jimmy from South Park - I mean COME ON. The number 2 Pfp certainly doesn't deem himself in that company and I honestly beleive hes more deserving of it. Does Pacman duck dangerous opponents? NIEN! Does he say hes more dangerous and couragous than Roberto Duran? Nien to that too. Floyd says hes better than Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson. I used to be the hugest Floyd supporter cause I appreiciated him being a masterful defensive fighter. No Willie Pep but probably at least top 10 in terms of defensive ability if not top 5. The guy has made me disgusted iwith him. "Who is Margarito" when Top Rank offered him 8 million. THATS why I say hes a joke. And Beanflicker Judah lost to Baldomir who is IMO garbage. Guy has like 11 losses and moves like pond water. Judah was holding his own against Mayweather until he turned retarded and DLH gave Mayweather all he could handle and hes not even the best in his own division anymore. I thought Mosley training DLH might give him and edge but it wasn't enough. I bet Mayweather tells us Sugar Shane has never done enough to fight him even though Sugar went at least 1-1 with DLH and I think/agree with the judges that he won both based on powerful body punching.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 01:57 AM Thats my reasoning. Mayweather will get his due from me when he stops picking the weakest belt holder to go after. IF Spinks beats Taylor he'll jump to 160 to win another belt but if Taylor stays champ he won't dare try it. Guaranteed. If Mikkel Kessler or Calzage could cut to 160 he wouldn't dare fight either of them either.
I think Floyd will step up & only fight the best from here on in.Hes probably got 4-6 fights left so if he stays at his proper weight Isee him having the skills to beat any one from 140-147.
He was too small ay '54 against Oscar but he still won.
Hes a great fighter in my view.I think he's a dick too with a lot of the shit he comes out with but I'm a fan because of what he does in the ring, not out of it.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 02:01 AM Floyds greatest performance was 5 years ago at 130 against my boy in the avatar. After getting everything he could handle against Castillo he stopped taking tough fights. I would give Floyd more credit if he LOST a fight that he took against a dangerous opponent. It least it would take some guts to take a tough fight. I think Cotto would beat his body down, I think Mosely would do the same, I think Margarito would win a decision based on his length and volumn punching and I think Hatton could roughhouse him around the ring at 140 (but maybe not on Hatton). If Floyd took any 2 of those fights win lose or draw i'd be forced to take back alot of what I said. But you know what? HE WONT
160 is not the weight for Floyd,no way.He lacks power at '54 much less '60.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 02:03 AM Not trying to be an asshole but the talking about Mayweather makes me mad cause he has so much talent but so little desire to use it in tough fights. Then talks so much shit.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 02:05 AM But because America is great we can agree to disagree on his place in history. I will definately give you he is the most talented boxer of the last 15 years though.

The fight against Chico was what made me take notice of Floyd.Corrales was a great puncher at 130 who decimated the unbeaten Roberto Garcia to win the title. The way Floyd chopped him down without getting hit or the slightest bit tired was impressive stuff.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 02:14 AM Yeah Floyd was one of the best all time at 130 and if he had continued the path he was taking at 130 by dominating the best he could have been top 10 all time.
Now heres my predictions for tonight....
Berto TKO 1 Martinus Clay
Miranda KO 5 over Pavlik
Taylor TKO 11 Spinks
Night of Knockouts!
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-20-2007, 02:33 AM Gonna watch it on HBO HD :D And DVR that shit too in case there are some awesome fights
