ive heard somethign about peanut butter and working out. supposedly it helps in some way, not sure how but im just wondering if anyone knows anythign about this.

peanut butter has good fat and is high in protein. i am hesitant about eating it though. i read the label and its like 16 grams in fat but its not saturated.

combine peanut butter with wheat bread for a source of complete protein, and the fat is great for energy no doubt.

Massive amount of protein and "good oils and fats"... It does have a lot of fat,,, but it's good fat. Better than a McDonalds Hamburger.

you guys prob know this, but just making sure, it has to be combined with something like wheat bread or the protein is useless to your body. i think most people eat peanut butter with bread anyways. for a good snack i'll have like a banana and some peanut butter on whole grain bread.

protein is made up of amino acids, so peanut butter by itself, and bread by itself contains amino acids found in protein. so in this sense it has protein, but its missing an amino acid or two that makes up a complete protein (hard to explain). peanut butter has the amino acids that bread is missing and vice versa. complete sources of protein include: Any kind of animal meat, and i think all dairy products. everything else needs to be combined with something else to get the missing amino acids, that make the protein useful for the body.

Amino acids are the chemical building blocks from which new proteins are made. The value of proteins is dependent upon combinations of amino acids that build the protein. There are nine amino acids that are essential to human health and nutrition. A food that has all the essential amino acids an individual needs is called a complete protein. Complete proteins support growth and normal maintenance of body tissues. All animal proteins are complete proteins: i.e. milk, eggs, cheese, fish and meat have all 9 amino acids. Proteins from some plant sources, such as brewer's yeast, certain nuts, soybeans (tofu is made from soybeans), cottonseed, and the germ of grains are also complete proteins.

Some plant foods contain protein, but do not have all the essential amino acids the human body needs. They are called incomplete proteins. Incomplete proteins lack one or more essential amino acids but will neither support growth or provide normal maintenance of body tissues. We can obtain some protein from nuts, legumes, beans (navy and lima), grains/cereals, lentils and peas, but the proteins from these sources do not contain all the essential amino acids and are not as easily absorbed as the animal proteins. Other vegetables contain some protein but not all the essential amino acids. Rice, wheat and corn, for example, are missing some of the nine essential amino acids, but grains combined with other foods are major protein sources in many countries. Some vegetables are only missing a few essential amino acids while others are so deficient that they can't repair tissue.

It is important to have a variety of foods to make certain the body gets all of the essential amino acids. There are various ways to make protein complete:

1. by combining plant and animal foods
2. by combining plant proteins from a variety of cereals and grains

For example: peanut butter lacks 3 amino acids. By spreading it on buttered whole wheat (not white) bread and serving it with a glass of milk or some yogurt it becomes a complete protein.

peanut butter is good but plain roasted peanuts are better for working out less fat same protien..but you need the fat chicken. ha jk

don't get the jiff or skippy brands since they hydrogenate the peanut butter so that the oil doesn't separate out and become nasty. in the process of hydrogenation they make the "bad fats" like the trans fats, which are much worse than saturated fats. get the natural ones, where you have to mix it. almond butter is fricking good too....by the way what does WAR mean? i've always wondered...

Yuppers... Be careful though because a lot of the organic/all natural Peanut Butters are "oily" and you have to stir them up before using them. The texture and consitency are nothing like you would be used to... To be honest I've had a hard time finding good tasting/textured orgainc PB. Trader Joes usually rocks the party though...
