thats very sad and unexpected, Corrales was a warrior and was still very young, I think he will be a HOF'er
RIP

RIP
agreed, he came to do battle every fight
he should make HOF status just for his wars with Castillo and Casamayor
it wouldnt be a shock at all
this is weird, I was just watching his fight with Floyd last night and today I found the VHS tape where he was stopped by Casamayor in there first fight
i just couldnt believe after his 3rd fight with casamayor he was talkion retirement. i was like, wtf? hes in his prime, just needs a break and some more trianing and he oculd dominate again.
RIP WARRIOR!

I actually got the first 2 on ppv but I can barely remember there second fight
Diego Corrales Killed in Motorcycle Accident
By Mark Vester
In a very sad turn of events in the world of boxing, former champion Diego Corrales, 29, was killed in a Las Vegas motorcycle accident on Monday night. Las Vegas boxing writer Kevin Iole received word from Corrales' manager, James Prince, who had just arrived at the scene shortly after 9:50 p.m. PDT.
"It's true, I'm sad to say. I'm looking at the scene now," Prince told Iole.
The accident was confirmed to Iole by a spokesman at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and said to have taken place at the intersection of Fort Apache and Russell Roads in southwest Las Vegas. No additional details were provided.
The staff of BoxingScene.com send their condolences to the family of Diego Corrales.

Diego "Chico" Corrales, who won titles in two weight classes and was involved in one of the most memorable fights in recent times, died Monday in a motorcycle accident, his promoter said. He was 29.
Gary Shaw said Corrales was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed when he ran into the back of a car about 10 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Monday night.
"He's laying there as we speak with a helmet on his head under a sheet," Shaw said. "It appears he was thrown a great distance."
Shaw said Corrales, whose career had faltered in recent fights, had recently bought a racing motorcycle, which he was apparently riding at the time he was killed.
"He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly," Shaw said. "That was his style."
Las Vegas police spokesman Jose Montoya said the victim in the accident was wearing a helmet, and it was not known if drugs or alcohol was involved.
"No tests have been done. We're still investigating," Montoya said.
The lanky Corrales, who stood 5-10 1/2 but fought most of his career at 130 pounds, was a big puncher best known for getting up after two 10th-round knockdowns to stop Jose Luis Castillo in one of the most thrilling fights ever.
The fight took place May 7, 2005, exactly two years from the night he died. It was named by the Boxing Writers Association of America and numerous boxing publications as the fight of the year.
Corrales, though, was knocked out by Castillo in the rematch and lost a big payday when he failed to make weight for his next fight. He lost his last three fights, including his last fight on April 7 against Joshua Clottey in Springfield, Mo. He had moved up two weight divisions to welterweight for that fight, but dropped a decision.
Corrales, who was born in Sacramento, Ca., but lived in Las Vegas in recent years, was a big puncher who won his first 33 fights and held a piece of the 130-pound title before he was stopped by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a unification fight in January 2001.
Corrales was sent to jail on a domestic abuse charge after that fight, and didn't fight again for two years. He came back to fight a trilogy against Joel Casamayor, losing two of the three fights, and split a pair of fights with Castillo.
After failing to make weight and then losing in the ring to Casamayor in a lightweight fight last October, Corrales made the unusual step of moving up two weight classes to fight Clottey. He was knocked down in the ninth and tenth rounds and lost a unanimous decision.
"He always cared about the fans and gave them their money's worth," Shaw said. "He was a true warrior. He was what boxing stood for, and what boxing is all about."

damn this shit is sad.
that really sucks. he was a bad ass boxer, that fight with J.L. Castillo made me yell out of excitement at about 2 in the morning the first time i watched it on showtime (or hbo, whichever it was). although it wasn't live that fight was really exciting to me.
he was a bad motherfucker.
R.I.P.
When the story first broke a few hours ago, I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I'm still in shock. Corrales was one of my all time favorite fighters for the very reasons people have mentioned, he was all heart and blood and guts, he gave it his all win or lose everytime. I've been watching boxing for over 30yrs since I was a kid, and the two most memorable moments for me was Foreman KO'ing Moorer and Chico climbing off the deck twice to stop Castillo, and I've seen thousands of fights. Man, this really sucks. RIP Chico and may god bless his wife who is 7 mos pregnant and his 5 children.

LAS VEGAS - To his closest friends and boxing associates, Diego "Chico" Corrales' death in a high-speed motorcycle crash came as no surprise.
"I think anyone who knew him well knew he was a real thrill-seeker," said Joe Goossen, Corrales' estranged former trainer. Goossen recalled begging the boxer who threw big punches and took big chances not to ride the motorcycles he brought to training camp.
"We had a great three-year run," Goossen said Tuesday of a relationship that ended when the two parted in October 2006. "We won three world titles in three straight fights in two different weights."
Corrales' promoter, Gary Shaw, said Corrales, whose career faltered the past two years, recently bought the racing motorcycle he was riding when he was killed.
"He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly," Shaw said. "That was his style."
Police said Corrales' 2007 Suzuki hit the back of a car Monday evening while trying
heres a link that says pretty much everything about the crash

I guess you have to expect that an in-the-ring fireball like that probably had a reckless life outside the ring. Reality has heavy hands. Nonetheless, a truly tough SOB.
RIP
