In a recent conversation with BBC Sport, Roger Mayweather, uncle/trainer of WBC junior middleweight champ Floyd Mayweather, said that his nephew will not retire. He thinks there is too much money out there for Floyd, more than enough to even make a "dead man walk." Floyd promised to retire after he won a split-decision over Oscar De La Hoya last weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Floyd ain't quitting. Too much of this money will make a dead man walk," Roger said. If I'm Oscar De La Hoya, I'm thinking, 'Why not fight Floyd again? Look at the money we made.'"

Mayweather is not the only one, there is a good possibility that De La Hoya will also retire. De La Hoya promised to keep fighting regardless of the Mayweather outcome, but now he is not so sure. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, told BBC Sport that De La Hoya will take some time to think about whether or not he plans to return to the ring.

"Oscar is such a great champion, he gave the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world an amazing fight. What he needs to do is get some distance from this fight, and see what he wants to do. A great champ like Oscar deserves when he retires for it to be his decision, and his only. If he retires, he does so off a great performance. Oscar has nothing left to prove," Schaefer said.
