What did you think of the fight? I loved seeing Oscar trying to box Floyd into the corner to pound him while Floyd kept using his speed in the center of the ring. It was very strategic and had some exciting moments.

View Full Version : Thoughts on Oscar De La Hoya Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr? ninjashoes 05-06-2007, 06:36 AM What did you think of the fight? I loved seeing Oscar trying to box Floyd into the corner to pound him while Floyd kept using his speed in the center of the ring. It was very strategic and had some exciting moments. RoryZilla 05-06-2007, 06:37 AM Floyd had good cardio he has learned to run. Squirrel 05-06-2007, 06:40 AM I don't watch any boxing really but I thought it was good. They should have fought until someone fell asleep on the canvas though. Jim 05-06-2007, 06:59 AM wasnt as good as Id hoped. Both had their defense down pat making it hard for either to land a big shot. No real winner either. A draw wouldve been appropriate IMO :monkeystyle: amanamagus 05-06-2007, 07:21 AM What's next in Boxing.?!? Next big event.. DieOff 05-06-2007, 07:24 AM I though it was good fight, had some nice moments and tags from each other. I told everyone before the fight, Mayweather by decision so at least i was right with that prediction. unit 05-06-2007, 07:29 AM i laughed at all the people who said floyd would knock oscar out in 6. but a decision is pretty much what the expected result was. tho i don't really think it should've been a split decision. there is no way that Oscar should've won 7 of 12 rounds, and i'm an oscar fan. freakin judges. bigbadroy 05-06-2007, 07:49 AM it was a pretty lame fight. split decision my ass. supersudo 05-06-2007, 07:59 AM anyone notice DLH stopped using his jab after the 3rd or 4th round?... fucking dumbass!! supersudo 05-06-2007, 08:00 AM he was gettin him with the jab.. and he stops using it... :/ [AEM] TEAM420 05-06-2007, 08:10 AM Is it worth watching? or is a snoozer...Im not really a boxing fan because MMA>Boxing Resin 05-06-2007, 08:11 AM Oscar almost got the draw... anyone ever look at the punch stats? one sided fight to me. Squirrel 05-06-2007, 08:18 AM TeamPunishment420;488934']Is it worth watching? or is a snoozer...Im not really a boxing fan because MMA>Boxing Worth watching unless you already know who won. jrwa2 05-06-2007, 08:30 AM I like these kind of fights whether it be in boxing or MMA. The only thing really missing was the knockout potential from both fighters really. De La Hoya had a good gameplan in the early to middle rounds and I thought he was up a couple of rounds at one point, but after the 8th Floyd just put on a real clinic and deservedly won the fight. I thought the two judges who scored in Mayweather's favor scored the bout how I saw it. omegatron 05-06-2007, 08:41 AM it was aight...nothing more nothing less. Though it didn't live up to the hype. I loved seeing Oscar trying to box Floyd into the corner to pound him while Floyd kept using his speed in the center of the ring. It was very strategic and had some exciting moments. Yeah. It was a classic match up of contrasting styles for sure. Floyd is just so quick and precise... The second round was awesome. De La Hoya just seemed pissed off. He was throwing some bombs. I think he realized after the first round that if he doesn't knock Floyd out there is no way he could win. IMO the Split Decision was a joke. De La Hoya made a really good fight out of it,, and did win some rounds.... but C'MON!!!! Props to Oscar for being more aggressive, pushing the pace, unloading with some barrages... but unfortunately it takes more than "intention" to get a win. Floyd simply landed more punches. I guess it depends on how you judge. Floyd Sr. had an interesting perspective,,, that Oscar should have won because he threw more punches and was more aggressive. The old man was probably just pimping for a rematch so he could redeem himself for passing up a $1.5M payday. Bruce Lee 05-06-2007, 03:15 PM i just wanna see my dog B-HOP fight 1 more time I'm pretty jacked up to see he and Winky scheduled to fight... Neo_Pop 05-06-2007, 04:41 PM I liked the fight. The only suspence was would Floyd get knocked out. Mayweather did what he always does, and that is fun to watch when he is fighting a top guy that can knock him out. Beanflicker 05-06-2007, 05:06 PM I'm pretty jacked up to see he and Winky scheduled to fight... What??? Weren't you the one who said boxing would be dead after this fight? Now you're saying that you can't wait to see Bernard and Winky go at it? wts? Beanflicker 05-06-2007, 05:07 PM Thoughts... I give Oscar a lot of credit, he did A LOT better than what I thought he would. Both guys gave a real good account of themselves, and IMO both came out of this fight as winners. BUT it should have been UD for Floyd IMO Peter.Kitzmiller 05-06-2007, 07:59 PM Thoughts... I give Oscar a lot of credit, he did A LOT better than what I thought he would. Both guys gave a real good account of themselves, and IMO both came out of this fight as winners. BUT it should have been UD for Floyd IMO Ill have to watch it again more closely. For the most part Oscars shots wernt landing[like the whittaker fight]Floyd was shoulder rolling & doing his thing. But Oscar was flurrying fast enough to restrict Floyds usually effective counters and deserves points somewhat for aggression & effort. Like I thought the first half of the fight was very close,Oscars defense was very good & it was apparant that not only was Floyd having probs landing but he also couldnt seem to hurt Oscar. When the decision was being announced I genuinely thought it could go either way,Floyd got the W but as you pointed out Oscar also came out a winner & he can hold his head high knowing that he gave boxings No.1 P4P all he could handle for 12 rds. I cant see either of them retiring & a rematch is a natural. ninjashoes 05-06-2007, 08:21 PM It looked like Floyd won it pretty clean, I don't see how it could have been a split dec at all. Floyd has godlike speed, noone can deny him that, Oscar couldnt even see him. Beanflicker 05-06-2007, 08:35 PM I had the fight 116-112 for Floyd, but I knew it could go either way because the rounds were close and Oscar has been involved with a bunch of controversial decisions, both for him and against him. I really don't know how that one guy had it 115-113 De La Hoya, but then again I've seen a lot worse. I was nervous to see Jerry Roth there, we RARELY see a fight the same way. So I was surprised to see that he had this fight pretty much the same as I did. I mean he's the guy that scored Taylor/Hopkins 1 as 116-112 for Hopkins (what fight did he watch?) How Rude 05-06-2007, 09:01 PM i thought it kinda sucked it did have some exciting moments but they kinda looked like they were trying to set up a rematch and floyd isn't going to retire Peter.Kitzmiller 05-06-2007, 09:01 PM It looked like Floyd won it pretty clean, I don't see how it could have been a split dec at all. Asylum 05-06-2007, 09:30 PM Should've gone to DLH for not running the entire time. :/ Peter.Kitzmiller 05-06-2007, 09:55 PM Should've gone to DLH for not running the entire time. :/ I suggest you need Mark Twain's advice "It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." Beanflicker 05-06-2007, 10:24 PM We need to somehow segregate the MMA and the boxing forum, with a special pass needed to visit both. Peter.Kitzmiller 05-06-2007, 11:22 PM We need to somehow segregate the MMA and the boxing forum, with a special pass needed to visit both. From what I know only 1-2% [maximum] of mma fans meet the criteria required to get that pass.Setting a criteria that works would be time consuming Flaming of retarded input to the boxing forum should be made mandatory..& can be implemented immediatly. simply 05-06-2007, 11:49 PM thought the fight was very interesting to watch in terms of technical ability (not that I would know much about that). Floyd was very impressive and accurate. Some of his countering was awesome. Don't know why oscar abandoned the jab when he even saw that it was working. I still want to see rocky juarez's fight. Man.O.Fire9 05-07-2007, 12:11 AM It was a decent fight. De La Hoya gave up on the jab though, that jab backed FMW up and gave DLH a chance for a flurry. Still I don't think DLH could've matched Floyd's accuracy, that was just amazing Jim 05-07-2007, 12:23 AM It was a decent fight. Steinmiller 05-07-2007, 02:27 AM I had the fight dead even at 6 rounds a piece for both fighters. chop 05-07-2007, 03:30 AM Great close fight, I thought at the end it was a draw but was leaning towards Floyd If Oscar can get back into that kind of shape the rematch will be alot better and even closer I thought Floyd had a few chances to do more offencively, and Oscar had nothing left through round 10 and 11 but he came back strong in the 12th I want to see Floyd/Mosley now, and Oscar/Trinidad Chaz 05-07-2007, 04:19 AM Best thing about last night was Floyds drugged up dad... Hands down! Elduderino 05-07-2007, 04:22 AM skullet > shaved head henry 05-07-2007, 07:24 AM I am a huge Oscar fan, but there is no way this should of been a majority decision. Its refreshing to hear that someone who doubted Floyd before the fight came out of it with a newfound appreciation of his skills You've respected the facts of the situation enough to make an objective evaluation thats right on the money.
