Make a client/server application. Start terminal based and once that's up and running, port it to .NET (i'm assuming you are running windows...) and build an interface and expand it from there.

1. make server
2. make client to connect to server
3. make file transfer/chat transfer/whatever
4. expand on it from there

create a new vnc server and client app that has support for remote audio built into the protocol. i have been thinking about doing that for the longest time myself... would be leet.

Create a virtual shop, say mma dvds or something. Like Amazon...or a virtual bank. I did it in java, but I think it wont be that different.

How about a pong like game? In Java it's not very hard. If you want to you can port it to mobiles as well.

I'm not comfortable with vb.net coding and I already know a bit of Java. Plus I prefer language to be non microsoft manufactured. I know .net is easier and user friendly but it lacks "creativity".
