Who according to you were the toughest fighters of all times. Maybe not the best or most skilled. But the toughest.

In any weight division.

Not in any order

Mohammad Ali - For standing up to George Foreman.
Rocky Marciano - What he lacked in skill he made up in training.
Evander Holyfield - For standing up to Mike Tyson.
Sugar Ray Leonard - The guy beat Hagler and Duran.

I might be wrong considering I'm still a noob in boxing and MMA. :)

Thats a good list, you don't get much tougher than those guys.

I'd like to throw in these guys... I'm going to concentrate only on the toughest elite fighters like you did, because we could be here all day listing off tough journeymen and fringe contenders.

James Toney - He was arrogant as hell but you'll be hard pressed to find a tougher guy. He had the skills to back up his shit talking. Has never been stopped, and in my books has only legitamitly been knocked down once. Stood in front of murderous punching Sam Peter for 24 rounds despite giving up a world of size and strength. Has been cut, been dropped, been far behind on points, and has come back to win. Ducked absolutely NO ONE.

Marvin Hagler - Has never been stopped, never been knocked down. And when you've had almost 70 professional fights and fought guys like Hearns, Duran, Leonard, Mugabi, ect, thats one hell of an accomplishment. Was equally mentally tough, could not be fustrated or thrown off his game. Did whatever it took, even if it meant walking through a flurry of bombs from Hearns to win.

Ray "boom boom" Mancini. This guy might not have been one of the best but he could have been, only if he wouldn't of killed that Korean guy in the ring. soon after he retired.

wow I just read up on that right now and it's sad as hell. Thanks for enlightening me about that.

Jeff Fenech- physically impressive lightweight, any time he got backed up into the ropes he would literally pick his opponent up and spin him into the ropes giving him the advantage of room to move, also had killer KO power until his hands could no longer hold up for more than a few rounds,

Ali - to come from behind and win via KO against guys like Ron Lyle and Foreman says it all, although theres many great examples why Ali is regarded as highly as he is, watch Banks Vs. Clay

Mike Tyson impressed me with how much punishment he took in the Lewis fight, I really never thought old Mike could stand up to a beating like that, 7 brutal rounds, not including the 1st which I thought Mike won just because he was aggressive

Hagler was just a machine

Yeah people say Tyson had no heart. I think he was fustrated easily, but I never doubted his heart, he took some vicious shots from Douglas, Quick Tillis, Lewis, Holyfield, et.

Although he is not a great fighter and I think he is a scumbag, Diego Corrales is a tough S.O.B. He has shown that he can take punishment, get knocked down, get up, get knocked down again, get up again and fight his heart out.

A lot of obvious ones are already picked but heres a few more.

Bernhard Hopkins is an iron chinned throwback fighter. He was knocked down by Antwun Echols in his earlier days but roared back.Thats the only time I recall him coming off his feet in his career .He fought Jones & Trinidad and neither could hurt him.

Larry Holmes-Larry had a great chin & recuperative powers. His only stoppage loss over a 20 yr career was to a prime Tyson when he came out of retirement at age 38 and trained 2 months for the fight. The shot he took against Shavers should've put his lights well & truly out.

Ray Mercer was limited but incredibly tough back in the day.The bombs he absorbed from Lewis & Morrison without flinching were testament to his toughness.Ray said the hardest he was ever hit was by Tim Witherspoon.

Tex Cobb-if anyones seen his fight with Holmes you'll know what I'm talking about. Not a good boxer by any stretch but his chin & heart were his equaliser.

Ray Robinson-the man reguarded as P4P the best ever had a chin to match his amazing skillset.I don't know that he was ever stopped besides the TKO in the Maxim fight where he stepped up to light heavyweight & was beating the champ untill the stifling heat got to him in rd14.

George Foreman-was stopped just once by Ali & that was from exhaustion moreso than Alis power. In an amazing career that was rejuvinated in 1988 he regained the world title and proved his chin by taking power shots repeatedly from Holyfied,Moorer,Cooney,Morrison & Alex Stewart amongst others without falling.

i wanna put in a word for vassiliy jirov

he has a hell of a chin, and he isnt the greatest physical specimen around, plus hes moved up to heavyweight in the past for a number of fights, and hes definitely not a heavyweight.

he was the IBF cw champ and defended his title i think 7 times until his historical fight with James Toney

now years later he is fighting toney again, and then even after that he is moving back down to cw and says he plans on going after all the belts
