nope you need linux. entirely different operating system from windows. warning: it's NOT for newbies. i don't know your level of computer experience, but linux takes some getting used to. it's entirely different.
for one of a million different examples, theres no such things as a "C drive" or a "D drive" etc in linux. if you have a drive on IDE primary master for example, it is recognized as /dev/hda or if its primary slave, /dev/hdb
or if you have SATA or SCSI disks, drive 0 is /dev/sda
of course, that's not even where they're mounted. that's getting into an entirely different animal.:sifone:
it's awesome if you have the time to learn it, it's really worth it. much better OS than windows imo. you will be pulling your hair out at first wrapping your head around some of the changes, i know i was. just remember: google is your best friend.
i've been messing with it for about 2 years now and i'm still not even close to being an expert.
i prefer the debian distribution of linux. you can check it out at: http://www.debian.org
there are some other distributions out there, a couple are:
Fedora Core - http://www.fedoraproject.org
Mandriva Linux - http://www.mandriva.com
Slackware - http://www.slackware.com
openSUSE - http://en.opensuse.org
the best thing about linux is IT'S FREE! woot. and entirely open-source.
after you install a linux distro you'll have to set up video drivers properly for 3d hardware acceleration, and then get beryl. http://www.beryl-project.org
