Kinda funny shit right here, not sure where to put this:
Internet forums were abuzz recently with the tickling discovery that Google Maps offers driving directions from a U.S. city to a European location — a trip that requires an amphibious vehicle or a lot of swimming. It seems outrageous at first, but then you realize that it’s probably the work of prankster programmers or deliberate viral marketing by Google. Still, it got Web Search thinking about other absurd uses for usually helpful websites.

Helpful website: http://maps.%20google.com/
Typical use: Getting driving directions from home to an unfamiliar part of town.
Unlikely use: Getting driving directions from home to an unfamiliar part of Europe.
Example: How to drive from Minneapolis to London.
Absurdity: Step 20: “Swim across the Atlantic Ocean.” That’s 3,462 miles. And then it has you arriving in France and driving to catch the ferry across the English Channel, instead of just swimming to England in the first place. Duh
Helpful website: http://www.kayak.com/
Typical use: Finding the lowest prices on air fare, hotels and other travel expenses.
Unlikely use: Booking a commercial flight for a short distance — really short.
Example: Going from New York’s La Guardia International Airport to JFK International Airport, about 12 miles away.
Absurdity: Although a taxi would take less than half an hour and cost about $28, according to http://www.nyccabfare.com/, http://www.cheaptickets.com/ sells a $239 fare for a nearly 6-hour flight, including a three-hour layover and airline change in Washington, D.C.
Helpful website: http://www.amazon.com/
Typical use: Buying cool merchandise, including books, DVDs and electronics.
Unlikely use: Buying the groceries you were supposed to pick up on the way home from work.
Example: Milk, cereal, vermicelli, pasta sauce, bananas, ground beef and a Carvel ice-cream cake. Total: $37.93 (splurging $17 on the cake).
Absurdity: Shipping would cost a cool $39.27 — gotta keep that cake frozen and milk chilled. A total of $77.20 for a small grocery list might be considered a bit indulgent and impractical.
Helpful website: http://www.gmacmortgage.com/
Typical use: Figuring out mortgage payments with its online calculators.
Unlikely use: Calculating a low-amount loan.
Example: Borrowing the money to buy Boardwalk ($400) with a house ($200) in the game Monopoly.
Absurdity: At the going rate of 6.35 percent, a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage for $600 would cost $3.73 a month. The total payments over the life of the loan would be $1,346.49, of which $746.49 would go toward interest.
