today at school i was rolling with a budy of mine from my wrestling team who also dose bjj. now some how we both ended up in a leg lock situation. i we going for a regular heel hook and he was going for an everted heel hook. now i havent really rolled with leg locks that werent straight ankle locks or toe holds. so the pain is somthing im not use to. i didnt tap as fast as i should have becasue i was trying to get him in a heel hook and i got a little bit of pain in the inside of my knee. now the question is what are the injuries that inverted heel hooks cause? what should i do to treat and strengthen it? the pain is not really bad its a mild irritation and is can walk fine but i have had slight mcl injuries before that have felt similar to this? is that what i hurt and how do i prevent injury aside from tapping sooner? any info that you all have and can offer would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Why does nobody do the Figure-Four leglock made famous by Boris Zukov and the Iron Sheik?... or the Camel-Clutch for that matter.

best way to defend the heelhook isstraighten your leg and point your heel. the injury it causes is dislocating the top of your fibula. a neoprene knee wrwap will keep it stable while it's healing.

wow, who did you roll with? your teacher should beat the shit out of that guy. there is a reason that heel hooks are illegal in white belt competition. even in blue and purple they are sometimes illegal at some tournaments i've been to.
heel hooks sometimes don't hurt until it is too late, most of the time when people tap to a HHs it is because they know they are caught and they don't want their knee/ankle/shin bone destroyed.
if you can keep the guy from getting a good angle you are usually ok. also always keep your hooks hidden, i mean figure four your feet or tuck your feet under his butt or keep your feet on the outside of his arms so he can't catch them but as soon as you see him go for it, hide them
edit: i'm not really a leg lock kinda guy but i train with a few guys who are, if you learn how to use leg locks you can be very dangerous, not just because you can tap but you can use leg locks to pass the gaurd and other thing too, this guy christian is a brown belt but he is like 4-0 against black belts because he can pass guard using leg locks and he can sweep with them too, he has got some crazy tricks

Randleman sure as shit didnt tap to a Heelhook, and it was sunk in forsure
he then toughed out a toehold for like 1min+, before giving into the most brutal looking kneeebar i've ever seen
