Came across this on ESPN, maybe someone knows more about it. Sergio Mora, season 1 winner of the Contender was offered a fight against Jermain Taylor, but declined.

It's a shame, I would be interested in this fight. Taylor is the same style as Mora, but better. But Mora has lots of heart. Found this on Wiki, if it's true, it sounds like the ultimate cop-out. "Rumors are that Mora may fight WBC/WBO middleweight title holder Jermain Taylor in Spring 2007. On March 15, 2007 Mora refuses a seven figure fight against Taylor that would have taken place in Memphis. His sole reason was that Memphis was an inadequate forum for such an event."

I think SErgio has yet to fight any guy at the level of JT. The excuse of Memphis was really not believable. I cannot see sergio winning. Moreover he has not fought for quite some time now. But this excue is a huge blow to his credibility.

It was a championship fight man. He cannot dictate terms to champ.

yes he did...plus i don't think he's ready for taylo right now anywayz...they should give him allen green to see how he matches up.

Mora is a punk. He is just trying to get the fight in Vegas or more preferrably in LA. Taylor would destroy him in Memphis.

For the last week and a half I have read that Sergio Mora is a flake, coward, has no heart, is cocky, arrogant, and so on.......I really feel that him turning down this fight should be admired and not criticized. Give him credit for taking so much pride in his undefeated record that he is willing to give up a big payday in order to get a fair shot at the title. We all know that Mora is not a big power puncher, he would have to outpoint Taylor. Memphis is not the place to receive a decision over Jermain Taylor. DiBella wants to say that he could not find another arena in the whole country to hold this fight. I'm not buying it. Almost all fighters these days would cash in and take the money despite these politics. But give Mora credit for wanting to WIN so badly, that he is willing to give up the money and willing to take everyones criticisms like a man in order to get a fair shot. Any other loud mouthed fighter would be telling his side of the story on every boxing website, but Mora is just staying quiet. He probably understands how this looks and is willing to take every critics' shots without wasting his time to respond. Critics can talk their shit, but they're not the ones training their asses off, getting punched in the face, putting themselves on the line, putting years of hard work and an undefeated record on the line. Every fight I've seen of his, he has fought his heart out. He is one of the most exciting fighters to watch in that division (along with Miranda). I know if they put this fight in another city, everyone would've seen the "snake" come out once again and he would have fought his ass off....he always has. He still may not have won, but Taylor for the first time, would have had to beat someone with some bravado and pride, someone who wants to win. I hope that HBO doesn't hold this against him and gives him another shot to fight on their network. After watching this guys fights for the last two years, I can honestly say he's more entertaining and charismatic than most of their fighters. Who else would wipe blood off his eye brow and lick it, stare down opponents, and draw a line on the canvas with his shoe. He wouldn't let HBO down. In fact they would be letting us down by not giving him another shot.

Yup.I can't see Spinks having the power to unseat Taylor.I'd say Taylor will win a decision.

WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor is set to put his titles on the line against IBF junior middleweight champion Cory Spinks on May 19 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. Both fighters spoke to the media on Thursday. "I'm pumped up about this fight and are ready to go," said Spinks. "We're gladiators. We're just going to go in and do what we do best and that's execute and gladiate." Taylor said he's just looking to get a win. This will be Taylor's third straight fight against a southpaw. As for The Contender's Sergio Mora, who pulled out of the fight due to the proximity of the fight to Taylor's hometown in Little Rock, Arkansas, Taylor stated, "He's scared. He took the easy way out...he's a chicken...and now he'll probably never get a chance." Regarding Edison Miranda, who publicly called out Taylor in a widely seen online video, DiBella stated "I find him very amusing. The guy's funny, but what has he ever done? Who has he even beaten? If he stepped up to the top echelon of world fighters, I think he'd get smacked around right now." As for Bernard Hopkins' statement of passing the torch to Miranda, Taylor stated that he already took Hopkins' torch, "He ain't got no torch no more."

I'd like to see Mora fight John Duddy. Considering both are unbeaten.
