Is it because they dont like getting punched in the face? I dont either but things seem disproportioned around here.

and actually, if you are afraid to get hit, you should take up boxing.
that will help you more than anything.

I practise muy thai, I have been punched in the face pretty often. The headache keeps you awake when you want to sleep, that's about the only downside, the upside is you know how a punch in the face feels and you learn how to react to it...

getting punched isn't as bad as having someone alot heavier on top of you.

i think its cause most of u guys live out west or in a place where you don't have a good boxing or muay thai gym. and also wrestling is free in most parts and part of the school curiculum

I agree with that. I did do some boxing for a couple months. And I think boxing = king of striking arts. Just my opinion.

But, I started with grappling (ya know, it kind of blew up after UFC 1? werd). I've done it for about 5 years and I'm pretty good at it, so now I've taken up wrestling to improve my takedowns and complement my grappling.

It seems to me at this point that (I'm 24), I may only be able to devote enough time to get good at ONE more art, and "maybe" adequate in the other.
So...I think wrestling complements grappling (BJJ) better than striking.

You know what you get when you have a guy with good striking and jiujitsu? Somebody who gets beat by every wrestler with decent submission defense...or, someone who has no option but to get KTFO when he comes across a better striker. In other words: NO takedowns/TD defense.

WRESTLING/Striking is the much better combo. Look at Chuck: he can stay on his feet 90% of the time to impose his striking AND (ie: versus Overeem) he can get out of hot water if he's finding himself in trouble in the striking battle (even if momentarily).

Also, striking hurts. Despite that, I do desire to train it down the road and become "competent" on my feet. I really don't expect to become good. Take Arona: NOT a good striker. He has a couple decent techniques--his low kicks namely, but that's about it. Still, he has the basic essentials to survive when needed against the likes of Wand (went the distance, twice), Overeem, etc. In fact, he's something of a striker's nightmare.

That's my goal.

and you can't get really hurt from boxing, just take shots, here and there..get bruised, and etc, but grappling, and wrestling, you can injure yourself pretty bad.

That is the strange yet true trade-off. 9/10 times you will probably walk away from boxing more sore than you did after a grappling session. You might have a tender nose or a swollen lip, maybe some aching ribs. However, while you can often get away with not being too beat-up after a wrestling practice, you always have that chance of having a really bad injury.

Myself, I've popped both my knees out of joint. They will never have the same range of flexibility, and it is extremely difficult to shoot off the more badly injured one.

That's the exchange you make.
