Matt Hughes says stuff that most of you will disagree with

Not much really going on this week, so I've been going through some of the emails that we receive to the website. I came across one message that asked me to use this platform that God has put me on to take a stand against the War in Iraq.
Well, I can't do that, because I fully support the War in Iraq and President Bush. He's the guy I voted for and I think he's done a good job. I believe our troops are doing a great job of defending our freedoms and making our country safe from terrorists. They are the real heroes. I'm just a guy who fights 3 times a year, these guys are fighting every single day so that I can have the opportunity to do what I love and raise my family in a free country. So I will always be thankful for that.
Honestly, I just don't see how anyone can claim to support our troops and at the same time oppose the war that they are fighting. To me those go hand in hand.
I know a lot of people might disagree with me on this, but that's fine, they're entitled to their own opinions. That's why we live in America. -Matt

Firstly I want to comment on the slogan 'Support the Troops'. This bothers me particularly when UFC fighters regurgitate it in front of large audiences post fight. It is a meaningless thing to say (How exactly does one support a troop ? ... are you going to lay down cover fire or something? )
What it really says is 'Support our Policy'.. the policy of sending poor people to fight and die to secure wealth and power for the wealthy and powerful.

Actually on the subject of weapons:
Iraqi scientist Mahdi Obeidi said he unearthed the parts in his back yard in Baghdad. Obeidi said he had hidden them beneath a rosebush 12 years ago under orders from Saddam Hussein's son Qusay and Saddam's then-son-in-law, Hussein Kamel.

Now this is a lot different to the picture that was painted by the U.S. intell but in a very round-about way they were correct, very accidentally it would seem. It makes no difference really , the war was planned well in advance and was going to happen regardless. This should be known if you have read Greg Palasts 'Armed Madhouse' which I have recommended here before.

Iraq needed to change there is no question, Saddam had to go. The problem however is that its a very corrupt group of people who executed the whole thing.In the case of Saddam it was the exact same members of goverment who armed him and backed his murderous regime, who led the warmongering to kill him after he did their dirty work in Iran and such.
The same kind of people behind Iran-Contra which destroyed a democraticly elected government using terrorism because they stood up against the oil companies and demanded their people get some of the benefits from the oil wealth. They also brought to power the radical religious leaders now in place, who were easier to control at the time.

This latest war was mainly for control of the oil reserves and contrary to what some think ( I saw it mentioned earlier) the oil isn't being pumped out fast to provide for western economies.. it is being held as a strategic economic weapon.
I'd suggest reading what christopher hitchens has to say about the 'internal' Shi'a / Sunni conflict and external problems with the west to get an understanding. Theres also some of his speeches on youtube relating to religion/ atheism if you care to look.
