View Full Version : Thoughts and Positive Energy Request
Brad O 03-20-2007, 06:39 AM Hi all:
I know most of you normally know me from screwing off in the Asylum. My sister in law is grappling with a difficult situation on whether to pull the plug or not on her father.
About a year ago, he had a kidney transplant. Things went well for the first 2 months, but then complications arose. Long story short, he got lymphoma from the kidney and it had to be removed. His health has decreased to the point where the only thing keeping him alive at this point is his blood pressure medication because his body cannot maintain it on it's own. His heart is so weak at this point that if the meds are stopped, he will probably die. And, he has been asking/begging to die.
Not posting this for moral reasons/debate, so please don't post any. Just asking for any prayers/thoughts/positive energy that anyone would be able to send.
Thanks,
Brad Olson

Brad O 03-21-2007, 08:55 AM Hey brad what's the meaning of OM MANI PADME HUM
I will just give you this link. It sums it up better than I could without rambling.

amanamagus 03-21-2007, 06:22 PM Death is not necessarily a negative thing. We were supposed to die from the day we were born. Death of someone dear although terrible it may seem makes our heart pure(free from all negative emotions. It makes us humble. It helps us in keeping faith. It helps in loving with a more open mindset and a more accepting heart.
Dont you think its more a fear of the unknown when we fear death. Death is inevitable. Herein lies the biggest and one of the most important truths of our lives. Why not make the most out of life, why not do everything we NEED to do. Live your life so well that you dont have no regrets/sorrows while dying.
"A dying man needs to die, as a sleepy man needs to sleep, and there comes a time when it is wrong, as well as useless, to resist."
-Steward Alsop
"I do not believe that any man fears to be dead,
but only the stroke of death."
-Francis Bacon
"Death is as sure for that which is born,
as birth is for that which is dead.
Therefore grieve not for what is inevitable."
-Bhagavad Gita
"It is nothing to die; it is frightful not to live."
Victor Hugo

A brief candle; both ends burning
An endless mile; a bus wheel turning
A friend to share the lonesome times
A handshake and a sip of wine
So say it loud and let it ring
We are all a part of everything
The future, present and the past
Fly on proud bird
You're free at last.
written en route to the funeral for his friend, Ronnie Van Zant of the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Ecclesiastes:
For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
amanamagus 03-21-2007, 06:32 PM Edna St. Vincent Millay:
Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.
In the end I want to say that Bodies die but souls live on. I apologise if I have hurt/offended your sensibilities in anyway. That was not the intention.
Dont see how many seconds are there in life. See how much life there is, in seconds.
Sogyal Rinpoche:
...when we finally know we are dying, and all other sentient beings are dying with us, we start to have a burning, almost heartbreaking sense of the fragility and preciousness of each moment and each being, and from this can grow a deep, clear, limitless compassion for all beings.

Reaper Man 03-22-2007, 12:54 AM I hope you and your family are doing well. Take comfort in the fact that death is a part of life, and can be no worse than a long dreamless sleep. If he doesn't like that idea, tell him he is going to a better place.
After he is gone though, just honor his memory and console your family. I just lost an uncle to brain cancer. There is a great book out there called "The Undertaker" that is a beautiful and often humorous reflection on death. I definitely recommend it.
Soul Position 03-22-2007, 02:36 AM Hey man, my best wishes with this difficult time in your family life. And my condolences. We will all face the prospect of a father or mother dying in our lives. So it must break your families (and extended families) heart. I'm very sorry man. But we must live and be strong for those that come after us. Stay well, and take care of yourself my friend.
Brad O 03-22-2007, 06:24 AM Thank you very much Reaper Man and Soul Position. Very much appreciated.
Sorry to hear the bad news brad.I hope ur sister in law can draw on her courage & altruism to do what's best & fair.
May strength be with you & your family mate.
