I read it. I don't even practice Jiu jitsu...very much. don't you think this belongs in the grappling forum?
Resin 03-08-2007, 09:37 AM Probably does but it's always nice to hear what you guys would think and not the crowd at the grappling section........
but on a serious note.... i dont really practice i just read both his books.

But yes the rubber guard is great as long as you have the flexability. I can even with my extra weight.
Dr. Bob {ADR} 03-08-2007, 09:45 AM I have the book. It's good. I've been trying some stuff from it lately.
Resin 03-08-2007, 09:50 AM it's great man...... you have to pratice it and keep trying to pull guard also whats so great about it is.... once you set up the basic position it opens up a gateway to a shit load of submissions.

TBA said that he used it to Gogoplata someone in class yesterday.
Dr. Bob {ADR} 03-08-2007, 09:52 AM His rubber guard stuff is good, but I make more use of his half guard stuff.
Resin 03-08-2007, 09:53 AM I haven't really attempted a gogopolata i've nailed a mounted gogopolata though...... I really enjoy doing the omapolata the most and if you can't nail that you can always transition into an armbar.
SneAkiE WeAZuLTeeFF 03-08-2007, 10:05 AM ive been wantin to check that shit out. me and my buddies hav been grappling a lot lately and ive been trying the gogoplata foot choke all the time and sometimes if it dont work i can transfer to the armbar or triangle. ive also been using the leg grab lately to keep them from picking me up to slam me. that shit works mad nice, actually i grabbed the leg too late the other day wen i was already off the ground and swung under this kids legs while still having the triangle sunk in and he fell foward on his head lol. i wonder if that shit could work in a real fight and be like a hurricanatrianglerana
Resin 03-08-2007, 10:07 AM I love how grappling has evolved so far since the early days.
SneAkiE WeAZuLTeeFF 03-08-2007, 10:14 AM yea dude, i think within the past couple years my whole outlook on fighting has changed, i always just threw strikes wen i used to fight. but now i feel like next fight i get into i would just shoot in or go to clinch and pepper em up with some knees and elbows.

good philosophy....... i think everything has came a real long way and the game has been changed and people are so superior now on the ground it's very special to be apart of something like that even if it's not on a high level or anything it's an art and should be respected.

Already got Mastering the Twister on pre-order...MTRG didn't add to my game so much as form its base as I am a BJJ n00b (though a long-time JJJ and short-time judo guy).
Still having difficulty trying to get to the spider web unless someone's throwing me a bone, but hey its all about baby steps for me right now.
Sloth 03-08-2007, 07:53 PM I got his book for Christmas and I liked it alot. The material itself works well with the stuff I usually do, but more than that, I liked the way that the book was presented. I liked that it was an actual gamplan with roadmaps to get you from piece to piece. I wish that more books were set up that way instead of just showing a bunch of random moves or little bits of ones game.
Resin 03-08-2007, 08:16 PM exactly thats what makes it so unique to me and also last night at bjj i went straight into mission control just for one second my opponent wasn't letting me set up the rubberguard so it took me like 4 mins before i was able to get that position and once from there i tried going for the omapolata but since it got blocked i went for another submission...... mastering the rubberguard is well written.
Sloth 03-09-2007, 08:18 AM I would guess that his Twister side control book will probobly be set up the same way which will be really cool. It would definitely be cool to see more books written with the same structure in mind and probobly alot more productive for people learning from, or at least getting ideas from books.
Dr. Bob {ADR} 03-09-2007, 08:22 AM Any specific release date for mastering the TSC?

Cameron 03-09-2007, 08:56 PM ive been thinking that i should get it the vid alone have helped my game out but im sure the book would rais it like mad. love the rubber guard tho is there any where i can get it aside from on the internet?
xhale 03-09-2007, 09:06 PM off my back omoplata is the first thing i try, first the right arm then the left arm, if it dosnt work move on to something else and come then come back to it.
the good thing about the rubber guard is you have constant control over your opponent... its awesome. plus you have the ability to constantly put them in submission trouble, which is another plus.
mission control -> chill dog -> jiu claw -> omoplata -> armbar... done and done.

Thats what I like best as well. I can pull gaurd maintain control and start working the progression. I am amazed at once I get going how many options I have. Two nights ago I decided that I was going to work triangle chokes from mission control no matter what other opportunities presented themself and I was able to get 6 out of the 7 guys I rolled with.
Resin 03-10-2007, 09:13 PM yeah first time i've ever hit a triangle it came from the rubberguard set up

That's what I've found too. It's a great control position once you break the guy down. It really allows you the time and flexibility to work through a progression of moves.

Yep, I found that the most useful thing I took from reading his first book was that I had zero half guard game, half guard is very overlooked IMO
